Lake Maggiore is a Swiss-Italian lake touching the Piedmont and Lombardy regions in Italy and the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. It is famous for its tourist destinations like the Borromean Islands and Brissago and shore resorts as Stresa , Arona, Verbania, Cannobio, Pallanza, Luino in Italy, Ascona and Locarno in Switzerland. Boat services run daily between all coast villages and islands, especially to visit the Borromean Islands ( Isola Bella, Isola Madre and Isola dei Pescatori ). Mountains and valleys are dotted with characteristic villages offering beautiful landscapes. Possibility of excursions and climbing in unspoiled nature, or to practice water sports. Culinary traditions, cultural treasures and still botanical rarities to discover: Lake Maggiore and surroundings will reserve you many surprises.

Maccagno actually consists of two villages, namely Maccagno Superiore, 250 above sea level, and Maccagno Inferiore. Maccagno , divided by the River Giona in Maccagno Superiore and Inferiore, was built on a promontory, which limits the Bay of Luino. You can see the other side of the lake as far as resorts as Cannobio and Cannero with its water castle ruins. Transport links by bus, train and boat are available. The surf - and sailing fans will find favorable wind conditions here . Especially from the upper village, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the central and southern part of Lake Maggiore. There are beautiful hiking trails with breathtaking views of the lake and the surrounding mountains until Monte Rosa. Maccagno Inferiore is a lovely destination; houses are nestled in the narrow streets close to each other, and over the roofs stands the crenellated tower, built by Otto the First .
