About our Studio:

L'Escapade de Marijac is a Chambre d'Hôte (Bed and Breakfast). Situated on the first floor of converted barn dating back to at least the mid 19th century, the charming room features oak beams and beautiful views. This first floor studio benefits from a separate entrance from the main house. Main features include a king sized bedroom with fridge, microwave, breakfast bar and free standing bath with a separate room housing the toilet and sink. The room rate includes free Wi-Fi, parking and freshly baked bread and croissants from the local bakers. Situated within walking distance of the Village Square, a beautiful 12th century Church and France's largest Beech Forest, this property is an ideal base for walking, cycling or touring the local area or for taking a day trip to or from Paris. Although we list the maximum number of guests as being two, we can also provide a cot for a young baby for no extra charge.

Why did we call our Chambre d'Hôte L'Escapade de Marijac?

The proprietor's grandfather was Marijac, a satirist cartoonist who first rose to fame during the 1940's with his French resistance characters “Les Trois Mousquetaires du Maquis” who comically fought against the German army. Marijac went on to become a publisher and was a friend and collaborator of Hergé (creator of Tintin). Marijac bought the house in the 1950's as a weekend retreat so that he could fish in the local river, and for a period, he owned and stocked the river with fresh trout. Day/weekly fishing licences are available at request.

We hope you will enjoy our retreat and consider it a “home from home”!

About our Village:

Lyons la Forêt is an ancient, beautiful village, referred to in records dating back to 936 when William 1, Duke of Normandy used to stay here as did other noblemen and Kings of France throughout the ages. Henry 1st died here from food poisoning and the walls of his castle still remain. Today, most of the buildings date from 17th and 18th Century and the charming village square is home to the local market, and is surrounded by shops and restaurants. You only need to visit to understand why Lyons la Forêt was chosen to site several films including “Madame Bovary” on three occasions. Maurice Ravel lived here and the French poet Isaac de Benserade (1612–1691) was born here. Lyons la Forêt is situated within the valley of the 2nd largest Beech Forest in Europe, and L'Escapade de Marijac is ideally situated within minutes of several walking, horse-riding and cycle tracks in the heart of the beautiful Haute Normandie countryside.

Lyons La Foret is conveniently placed a short distance away from the bustling city of Rouen, home of Rouen Armada 2013 http://www.armada.org/en/ with one of the worlds greatest collections of ships of all sizes from some of the tallest sailing ships in the world to the smallest rowing boats.
