The Rhone / French Alps / Rhone region
The Beaujolais Region is located south of Burgundy. Its climate is continental and quite warm in summer. Between the Mâconnais and the city of Lyon, with the Rhône valley beyond, it is an intensely pretty region, with rolling hills and extinct volcanoes in the north, and flatter land in the south. Beaujolais has a long history from the Roman to nowadays. You will find historical villages very well preserved in their medieval style. But the region is mostly known for its long tradition of winemaking, its gastronomy and more recently for the popular Beaujolais nouveau.
Lyon / Beaujeu area
In the village, at walking distance among vineyards, you can play tennis, go to the market twice a week to buy its local and organic products or rent quads or bicycles should you wish to visit the countryside. You can also attend a more cultural tour at the museum, the local oil mill or its famous vineries. You will find well preserved middle age villages and interesting castles to visit. Most of all you could enjoy very famous French gastronomic restaurants like the famous Paul Bocuse (less than 30min drive). Or, at less than 50 min drive, you can go shopping in Lyon, the 2nd biggest city of France after Paris. From 5 min drive to 30 min drive, you will find plenty of activities from a pony club to a leisure park with its zoo or a lac with its water sports area.
How to get there
At 17 Km from the exit "Belleville" on the highway A6. About 2 hours drive from Geneva, 4 hours from Paris and less than 1 hour from Lyon and its airport. From Paris, the fastest way is by train, take the TGV to Geneva and stop at Macon-Loche (about 1h35 min of train). Pick up or car rental have to be arranged.
