The Rhone/French Alps region
The Beaujolais is a beautiful winemaking area at the Southern tip of Burgundy. It is close to Lyon (France's most popular city voted by the French). Rich in culture, art, architecture and gastronomy. Stunning views, great walking, cycling (on and off-road) and touring. Although it is a very French part of France, it is well known around the world. George Clooney owns a chateau and winery; Tom Cruise and Bill Clinton have been guests at the local hotel, Chateau de Bagnols.
There is winetasting everywhere. There are festivals of watercolour, classical music, jazz and more. There is architectural heritage from 10th century chateaux to Le Corbusier.
However, many guests just relax by the pool and enjoy an aperitif from the secret garden watching the sun slide down over the rollings hills opposite.
Within the Beaujolais La Folie is in the centre of its most beautiful area known as Les Pierres Dorées. This translates directly as Golden Stone. It is the honey coloured local limestone out of which all the buildings were originally built. Moiré is the smallest municipal village within the area and is the most original. Vineyards, orchards, meadows and woods surround the village. The occasional wild boar and roe deer can be seen in the early mornings.
If you like life in the slow lane this is for you.
