The West Country region

Lynton: small cliff-top town/Edwardian resort in stunning scenery. Below - winding road and funicular railway connect - is Lynmouth (famous harbour village, boat trips) where two rivers pour from steep oak-wooded valleys. On Lynton's edge begins the very spectacular Valley of the Rocks. Marvellous walking country, valley or hill-top. Woolacombe (superb sand/surf beaches), about 20 miles (decent road).
