The area of Lyme Regis.

The West Country / Dorset region

Colmer Farmhouse is very near Lyme Regis an old fishing port where they filmed the French Lieutenants Women. The pretty fishing village of Beer is only a short drive away , with streams running down its side, many years ago it used to be home of a man called Rattenbury who used Beer as a smugglers haunt, There are lots of nice walks in the area whether that is coastal or inland. Also if you spend just over an hour in the car you could be in the middle of Dartmoor. So lots to do and see.

Lyme Regis / Marshwood area

There are lots of places to visit in the immediate area. Forde Abbey is about 4miles away, it is a family run abbey with beautiful grounds, and the abbey its self is steeped in history. Henry the 8th abolished the monks in the abbey and you will find alot of the old houses in the area have what they call priest holes (Colmer has one) where the monks used to hide. Pilsdon hill, this is an iron age fort , is 3 to 4 miles away with the most stunning views over the Vale to the coast. Abbostbury with its swannery is also worth a trip. On wet days there is Pecorama in Beer also Beer caves. Not far away is Creley adventure park. Or just relax by the sea with a picnic.
