The West Country region
Goodlands is set in An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty here on the Devon Dorset border in the middle of the Jurassic World Heritage Coast which stretches for 95 miles recording 180 million years in time.
Goodlands is just a 5 minute drive to Lyme Regis an historic seaside town famous for its fossils with a sandy beach as well. Excellent walking inland and along the Coastal Path.
To the west are the seaside towns of Seaton, Beer, Branscombe, Exmouth & Sidmouth and travelling to the east along the South Dorset coast we have the nearby Chesil Beach, Abbotsbury, Portland with its new Olympic Marina and Weymouth. Inland Exmoor and Dartmoor can be visited in a day trip. For those who enjoy visiting National Trust locations and castles there is nearby Montecute Hous, Forde Abbey, Sherborne and Powderham Castles.
On our doorstep is the sea side town of Lyme Regis is famous for fossil hunting. Experts take out fossil hunting walks from Lyme Regis and nearby Charmouth. Pretty beach huts on the historic Monmouth Beach at Lyme and an area of sandy beach by the historic Cobb. You can while away the hours in the old town of Lyme with its Mill and enchanting back streets full of fascinating shops from the Micro Brewery and Cheesemonger to the art Galleries. Lyme Regis is the perfect place for a family holiday. The area is a foodies paradise with Mark Hix's Oyster and Fish House also in Lyme Regis and just 3 minutes drive away and TV chef Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall's River Cottage for meals and events is just 3 minutes drive from Goodlands. At nearby Burton Bradstock a glorious beach with well known The Hive Beach Cafe.
Lots to see and do for children several nearby seaside towns, the Dinosaur Museum, Beer Caves, Pecorama, Cricket St. Thomas Wildlife Park, Sidmouth Donkey Sanctury and Seaton Tram are just an example of the nearby local attractions. Plenty of holiday information at the property. Joy, your Host who greets you personally on arrival, is a true local and font of information.
A congenial climate all year round and a great place for visiting with plenty to see and do all year around.

The accommodation is excellent and is just as described on the web site. It is very well-appointed with plenty of space inside and out and has absolutely everything you could possibly want in the kitchen drawers and cupboards but have forgotten to bring with you! We would certainly like to come back at some point in the future.
Many thanks for your lovely lines.
Thank you for being such perfect guests.

"Top quality holiday home from home"
A fully equipped holiday house close to both Dorset and East Devon tourist attractions. This is the best equipped and cleanest holiday let we have ever had, and we have stayed in a lot. The bungalow i… More
Thank you for your lovely review and I'm glad you found Goodlands to the standard you expected and the children enjoyed the fields.
Fortunately there is lit pavement to walk to both the pub and shop.
I am pleased to report that following a meeting last week (31st July 2014)with the local MP and the Highways Agency(which our guests read about in the local paper when here) the Agency is at the moment designing and costing for traffic lights at the local junction (the gateway to Lyme Regis on the Jurassic Heritage Coast) which will be fantastic for everyone.
Goodlands has good double glazing, not a sound can be heard inside the property and it is set back from the road behind a large hedge and has it's own 6 acres of fields to enjoy.
Thank you for this very positive review and glad you had lovely weather too!

"Excellent holiday let, beautiful location - would definitely recommend!"
Fantastic bungalow in a beautiful location, centrally located for the seaside towns of Lyme Regis, Weymouth and Sidmouth. We had beautiful weather and would definitely recommend West Bay as a wheelchair friendly place to visit. It was a real joy to return to the property after a long day and sit in the wonderful garden surrounded by nature! Joy was available at all times if there were any problems and we look forward to returning to this stunning bungalow again in the future. A real home away from home!
Delighted our guests with mobility requirements enjoyed Goodlands and found it suited their needs.
It's very kind of visitors to leave a line to assist future guests to get an overall feel for the property and area.
With best wishes and hope to see you all again!

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to write such lovely lines.
We are so glad you found the bungalow family friendly and that your elderly parent was comfortable.
Glad you saw the rabbits and were lucky enough to see the deer too. There is a bird feeder just outside the picture window and I am told a variety of species visit.

"excellent facilities for all ages"
We have recently enjoyed a lovely stay at goodlands. The accommodation was chosen with our older family members in mind and they were extremely well catered for. The accommodation is spotlessly clean, well equipped and very comfortable. The surrounding meadowland is beautiful and we saw lots of wildlife on our evening walks.
The only disappointment was the sound of the A 35 which was relentless day and night but it did not stop us spending time in the garden. It should be noted you can not hear the road when inside the house.
Joy Raymond is a wonderful and very conscientious owner and clearly has the needs of her visitors uppermost and made us fel very welcome.
Thank you for this review of Goodlands when our guests stayed over a busy bank holiday. Goodlands is within a stones throw of the The World Heritage Jurassic Coast and is a popular destination.
These guests were from one of the Channel Islands, which from our experience this is a quiet island with a speed limit so no doubt they found English roads busy.
As this visitor points out, inside Goodlands not a sound can be heard. We have given 6 acres of meadow land over to Goodlands so guests have plenty of natural space to relax in as well as a large garden area.
Goodlands is set well back from the road in it's own drive and gardens, within walking distance of a bus stop and the pub. Being so conveniently located with easy access to the West, including all the better resorts and seaside towns along the coast.
Our home web site is full of information, with photos and video, including satellite maps so a full inspection can be made of the property and surrounding area before booking.
We have welcomed hundreds of guests over the many years Goodlands has been enjoyed as a holiday home.
So glad our high standards of cleanliness were mentioned and the seniors found Goodlands comfortable.

"Very nice bungalow with all mod cons you could need"
We travelled with my parents, and choose this bungalow for its location and for my father who has limited mobility and a bungalow with mobility aids was preferred rather than a disabled accommodation.
Joy was a real pleasure in the build up to the holiday in ensuring everything we needed was provided, and was there to accept delivery of a buggy, for my father to use, the day before we arrived and emailed us to confirm it had all been delivered.
The Hunters Lodge pub, 1 minute away on foot, is very good for food, so good we went their twice in fact, and Millars farm shop is around 2 1/2 miles away. Axminster has some good quaint little shops and we spent an enjoyable afternoon there. Lyme Regis itself is very hilly although once at the seafront it is easy enough to push a wheelchair, just don't park at the top of the town if you do not like some seriously steep hills.
Goodlands itself is very modern and was a real home from home whilst we were there. It has everything you will ever need for a holiday and the free disability items were ideal for my father, shower seat, stick on hand rails for the shower, wheelchair etc.
If you need anything Joy is always on hand with help and advice. Many thanks for our super stay!
Thank you so much for your lovely descriptive review of a stay at Goodlands.
I am particularly pleased that your elderly relative was able to make good use of all our senior aids to make the most of his visit.
The local hire shop have a selection of scooters and they delivered promptly - I have to say I enjoyed whizzing around our large car park on it before you arrived!!!!
Hope to see you all again one day!

"One word 'Wonderful'"
We had booked to stay at 'Acorns Apartment' but on the morning we was due to arrive, Joy rang to say she had an electrical problem in the apartment, she didn't want us to be inconvenienced with workmen, so she offered us 'Goodland's' at no extra charge.
Goodland's is superb a wonderful holiday home, 3 good size bedrooms, the large lounge looks out over grassy fields, ample dining space and a very well equipped kitchen.
Lovely clean fresh bedding, plenty of towels and face cloths. Hand wash and body lotion provided in bathrooms, toilet, and wash basin in twin room.
Joy has put a lot of thought into this holiday home, so much to keep children happy, toys games, dvds etc, lots of equipment for elderly or disabled, (even a wheel chair).
Garden furniture, a BBQ, and plenty of room for children to play out side in the fields.
Although a main road is near by its not noisy, in fact it's very peaceful and tranquil. There is a pub just a 3 min walk away, and the town of Axminster is only 5 mins by car for shopping.
This is an ideal place from which to explore 'The Jurassic Coast' Lyme Regis is less than 10 min car ride; Portland and Weymouth are not to far away.
Thank you so much for such lovely lines - I'm so glad we were able to experience Goodlands - for your second visit to our accommodations. Looking forward to seeing you again for your third visit soon!
Glad the metal detecting in the fields went well - I was fascinated to see such an ancient coin! Perhaps the Royalists left it during the Monmouth Rebellion in Lyme Regis!
