The Tuscany region

The word Tuscany conjures images of olive groves and vineyards, fine food and wine, romantic farmhouses lined with cypress trees and of course the sun set over Florence. Tourists are drawn every year by these beautiful images they see in glossy magazines, travel guides and through film and television. Many visitors can be forgiven for thinking that Chianti, Siena and Florence encompasses all Tuscany has to offer, however this is not so, and although these areas are enchanting there is much more to discover. Lunigiana offers a truly unspoilt corner of Tuscany and an inspired destination for the Italian traveller. The most Northern tip which borders the colourful Gulf of the Poets. The nearby Versilia coast overflows with sea side charm and is within easy reach the impressive city of Lucca, rich with Italian architecture and culture. In order to really understand Tuscany it is essential to experience its many contrasts and only then will you discover its true spirit.

Lunigiana is an area rich in history and tradition and set amidst magnificent scenery. The generous hospitality and relaxed pace to life make this a perfect destination for those wishing to escape the rush of modern life. The nearby Gulf of the Poets has attracted many writers, artists and film makers over the years. The quiet cosmopolitan coastline still retains its authenticity and charm. Excellent transport links provide easy accessibility to many of the centres of both Tuscany and Liguria.

If you have a passion for Italy and a desire to explore the less beaten tracks, then Lunigiana will not fail to impress. The only way to appreciate all that the region has to offer is to see it with your own eyes. We are sure that after your visit this will be a place you find difficult to forget.

Should you require further information on the area please contact us. The is a multitude of things to see and do in Lunigiana and Surrounding areas. If you have a passion for shopping there are designer outlets in Liguria and Tuscany including top brands such as Prada, Gucci and Armani. The Versilia coast offers long strips of sandy beaches with a lively seaside atmosphere. Of course not to be missed are the cities of Florence and Lucca steeped in history and art. Experience the award winning Cinque Terre villages best experienced by boat offering superb seafood tratorrias , a wealth of charm and at Monterosso a beach where you can rest and watch the world go by. Unbelievably this area has been for a long time undiscovered, the reason why nobody knows however the simple fact of the matter is this destination has so much to offer for all types of travellers combining the best of all worlds.

Guestbook

Letter to Italia! Magazine November 2007: RUSTIC TUSCANY 'Last year we were encouraged by friends to visit Tuscany, but only having travelled in southern Italy didn’t know how to choose an area in this very different landscape. Our friends recommended a company to us called Toscana Rustica, so we got in touch and it was the best thing we could have done. The company manages a selection of properties in Lunigiana, a beautiful area just north of La Spezia. Properties offer amazing facilities, including concierge services, and advice is offered on flights, car hire, travelling in the area, special events like weddings – almost anything you want to know. We ended up staying in a beautiful house, with a pool, called ‘I Tre Olivi’. We had such an amazing time in the area, we’ve booked up again for next year and will be going with our friends! If you are thinking of heading that way for a holiday- or buying as there is also a property selling service –Margaret and Bill Hunt, Shropshire
