During the 2nd century B.C. the land was inhabited by Umbrians who were later conquered by the Romans, leaving historical sites for you to visit today, such as Otricoli.

The largest town, Terni, has many remarkable buildings to visit, such as the gothic church of Saint Francis and Palazzo Spada, Palazzo Fabrizi and Palazzo Carrara, to name just a few. There is also an ancient Roman amphitheatre, dating back to 32 B.C. Then there is the famous medieval town of Orvieto, perched on its tuft of rock, with it's beautiful cathedra., the picturesque ancient town of Narni and Amelia which dates back to the 3rd century B.C.
