About this location
The Espiritu Santo region
Vanuatu is a group of islands in the South Pacific.Espiritu Santo, now commonly known as Santo, is the largest island in the archipelago, around 100 miles north of the Port Vila, the capital. Outside the main town of Luganville in the South east, much of Santo is still relatively undeveloped and has vast tracts of untouched bush, an extensive coastline of unspoilt natural beauty and a rich and varied culture. There are no hotel chains here but plenty of small local tour operators offering access to the regions attractions, so there is plenty to do for the discerning traveller. The climate is tropical with temparatures ranging between 20 and 34 degrees C. The sea temperature ranges from 26 to 30 degrees C so always perfect for swimming.
Santo is a mecca for divers; the wreck of the SS President Coolidge is a world renowned dive site and there are many other intersting sites to dive and/or snorkel.
Malvanua island is on the East Coast of Santo, only a five minute boat ride from the mainland. Close by are a number of Blue Holes for which Santo is famous - two of which are within kayaking distance of the island.
It is a 20 minute drive into town/airport to the south, and 40 minutes to the famous Champagne Beach to the north.
Things to do while staying on Malvanua include kayaking around the bay or out to Turtle Island for a picnic lunch. The coral reef on the east side of Malvanua Island offers spectacular snorkelling while the sheltered bay in front of the house offers safe and protected swimming whatever the weather.
Activities that can be arranged include horse riding, fishing charters, visits to local 'kastom' villages and more. And the Santo golf couse is a 15 minute drive down the road.
The island offers self-catering accommodation however there are two resorts in the bay which are open to non-residents for breakfast, lunch and dinner if you don't feel like cooking every day. And there are a number of other restaurants along the coast. Car hire is available in Luganville or local taxis can be arranged as required. Or just kick back, relax, and enjoy your own private island! The house can be fully provisioned to your specification prior to arrival and additional catering can be provided by arrangement.
Malvanua is a place to come to chill out and enjoy the seclusion and beauty of your own private tropical island.
