About this location
The Cornwall region
Arlyn Cottage is in Varfell, a hamlet looking out over Mount's Bay. The Bay enjoys one of the most temperate climates of the British Isles and the mild weather conditions allow numerous sub-tropical plants and palm trees to thrive. West Penwith is also known for its rugged coastline, beautiful beaches and picturesque fishing harbours such as Mousehole and St Ives. Penwith is fantastic for watersports.
Surrounded by beautiful countryside, Varfell is situated less than a mile from the beach at Long Rock. Overlooking St Michael's Mount with its large car park that's never full even at the height of summer and a lovely cafe, its an easy place for a family beach day. Its also really popular with kitesurfers, windsurfers, sailers and kayakers. The Marazion marshes next to the beach are an RSPB nature reserve and attract many birdwatchers. Cyclists enjoy the route from Marazion along the Bay all the way to Mousehole, much of which is on a cyclepath. There are lovely walks from the house and the old Pilgrim route from St Ives to St Michael's Mount is only just down the road. There are also some great awarding winning pubs within walking distance, The Coldstreamer at Gulval and The White Hart at Ludgvan - both good for food and beer!
The ancient town of Marazion is only 1.5 miles away and is home to the spectacular and historic St. Michael's Mount. The ancient market town of Penzance is only 2.5 miles away and forms a gateway to the Land's End Peninsula. It is a thriving market town known for its galleries, historic pubs and award-winning restaurants. It also has a wide range of shops and supermarkets.
Much of the surrounding countryside is of outstanding natural beauty and there are numerous walks along the South West coast path. Lying 6 miles away is the scenic harbour town of St Ives with a wide variety of shops, galleries, restaurants and public houses.
