The Tuscany region

Montecarlo is in an area noted for its mild winters - it is protected by the surrounding hills and mountains. Often when the mountains (less than an hour away) have snow - which can be seen from the house - there is sunshine locally! Unusual things to do - there's a furnicular railway at Montecatini and Montecatini Alto is good for lunch. Thermal pools to visit nearby - one will take young children - we have the details.

Lucca / Montecarlo area

MONTECARLO is only 4 minutes away - it has a little castle which often has activities; there is an annual Wine Festival lasting two weeks and other attractions eg Chocolate Festival. The local restaurants are superb and reasonably priced. Pleasant driving around to famous houses/gardens, wine trail. LUCCA is just 15 minutes - most pedestrianised - elegant shops and sightseeing, bicycle rides around the wall. FLORENCE is 40 minutes (or 25 from train station - then 5 minutes walk to historic centre), THE COAST (beach) is only 40 minutes with lots of resorts (sandy beaches), SAN GIMIGNANO, MONTECATINI, PRATO, PISA less than an hour. SIENA, CHIANTISHIRE an hour or so - take the scenic route or nearby superstrada.

How to get there

- Fly to Pisa or Florence both only 35/40 minutes from Casa Fiore.
- Ryanair.com, easyjet.com, bmibaby.com, thomsonfly.com - from Stansted, Glasgow (Prestwick), Coventry, Bournemouth, Manchester, Dublin. Also Heathrow & Gatwick

The bedrooms have comfortable beds with cool white cotton bedding and extra white cosy blankets for winter stay (& central heating). The kitchen area is well equipped with plenty of crockery and cooking utensils for Tuscan cooking - supermarkets only 5 minutes away and full of luscious food. Everything the owners could think of to make your stay enjoyable. All our guests have loved just being in and around Casa Fiore on their 'lazy days'.

Further details outdoors:
Borgo le Vigne is on a small hilltop with gardens and a lovely swimming pool with far reaching views to the hills and mountains and another view over farmland to nearby Montecarlo - both views can be seen from the bedroom windows. Casa Fiore's garden has a circular table, chairs and large umbrella. The views - especially sunsets, are beautiful and much appreciated with a glass of wine (from the vineyard opposite or one of the many others locally). Cars are parked by the automatic gated entrance - so it is very pleasant to walk around. Lots to do but pleasant on lazy days! Our guests have loved staying at Casa Fiore and we now have their friends staying. Another Casa Fiore guest, returning from a 2005 family holiday, immediately booked another for 2006 . . . and another in 2007. Many of our bookings for 2007 (and even for 2008) are from returning guests or recommendations.

All seasons are pleasant in Tuscany. For the winter period there is central heating - come for relaxing walks, reading, listening to music, fine restaurants, easy sightseeing; visit Florence (by train) without the crowds; sample the theatre or find the best hot chocolate in Lucca; visit the smaller Italian cities. For the past couple of years, we have had guests staying for a month February into March - a couple could stay (very happily) and invite another couple to join them for a week or two, with the remainder of the times by themselves . . . tempting? For the period covered by the £450 rate, we contribute £50 towards central heating and deduct from deposit thereafter (but heating is very efficient). Damage deposit is £250 per booking but we've never needed to make any deductions.

The holding deposit is 20%. There is a £200 returnable damage deposit.

Special rates for Christmas and New Year - please ask for details.

Please also ask for any advice re booking: we often have flexibility. We are also happy to assist with any aspect of planning your holiday - help with car hire for instance.

Guestbook

'We loved it - we will recommend your fine home and hope you have much joy and gain'. (July: family from Cumbria with children 9 & 14);

'The house was beautiful as were the stunning views and sunsets. I don't know how you are not out there all the time! The directions you sent us were excellent. We visited Florence (by train), Pisa and Lucca & a couple of local villages. The rest of the time lazying by the pool'. (August: Family Essex);

'We all had a wonderful time and thought the villa perfect. We drove to Siena and San Gemignano, Cinqua Terra, Florence, Lucca twice, The Devil's Bridge and Pisa . . . and still plenty of time to enjoy Montecarlo. Didn't get to the wineries but will go first day next time. . . all said that Casa Fiore exceeded their expectations' (2 couples, 2 weeks, May 06)

'Wow! We just loved Tuscany. Casa Fiore and your fantastically detailed notes, perfect for us. Thank you for a great holiday'. (Family October).

'Thank you so much for another lovely holiday . . . the girls loved it . . . could you let me know what weeks you have available during the summer' (Family August 2005, 2006& booked for 2007).

'We had a wonderful time at Casa Fiore. The weather was very warm so we used the pool often. Montecarlo is a delight and we had dinner there a few times. . . in one we had a wonderful dinner and the service was exceptional. . . thank you for a great visit and we hope to return in 2 years time'. (2 couples from Australia, celebrating a birthday, September).

Casa Fiore was lovely and the views fantastic, stunning sunsets. The weather was excellent. We managed to do quite a lot but it was still very relaxing. Went to the beach on Sunday. Lucca on Monday and everyone had great fun cycling around the walls. Train to Florence on Tuesday. Montecatini on Wednesday, had great fun on the funicular railway and an excellent lunch in Montecatini Alto. Found an excellent thermal pool the boys could use, A quiet day on Thursday and back to the thermal pool on Friday - stopping off at favourite place for chocolate and coffee. We also thoroughly enjoyed the local food and wine. . . we had one of the best value meals we've had for a long time. Eating out in general was value for money. The boys had a great time consuming copious amounts of ice cream, and were in their element with pizza, pasta and plums. Thank you for all your help, it has been very refreshing and a pleasure to deal with someone who makes such an effort to provide such a fantastic level of service and accommodation. (Family from Scotland with 2 young boys, October 2006).

I wanted to let you know we had a very nice time. Your home in Tuscany is lovely and beautifully furnished and the views are breathtaking. Our first morning there I was up early and opened the bedroom windows and experienced the most wonderful sensation of cool morning air. The birds singing and the quality of the light sent me spinning back to my childhood and the farm where I grew up. It was a profound and delightful surprise. We especially appreciated all the information you shared with us about the house and the local area, it definitely made our visit even more enjoyable. Thanks for everything! (2 couples from California, April 07).

Home again after a fantastic week at Casa Fiore. Just adored the terrace with those stunning views and sunsets. Lovely day trips to Florence, Pisa and Lucca by train and a drive to Vinci one day. (Couple, June 07)

This is just a small selection of thank you emails as every guest has written to thank us this year and it has been a pleasure to have them to stay at Casa Fiore - would you like a delightful holiday in 2007 or 2008?
