Home description

Settimo Cielo is situated high on a hill above the medieval village of Casoli in Northern Tuscany. Built on the site of the Castle that originally stood there it consists of a main house and a cluster of small buildings that have been painstakingly restored to reveal their original features. The site even has its own tiny chapel. The cottage has its own kitchen and bathroom and its own private terrace.

The journey from Pisa airport is motorway till you reach Lucca, then on to the SS12, signposted to Abetone, an easy drive in the valley before starting your ascent to Casoli.

The Tuscany region

The region is a fascinating mix of beaches (Viareggio) mountain villages (numerous), and wonderful cities ( Florence and Lucca). Lucca has excellent museums, great restaurants, good shopping, and classical music concerts in many of the churches. During the summer the city hosts rock concerts in the main square, with appearances by some of the world's top performers (Elton John, Norah Jones and Eric Clapton are just three of the performers who have appeared there in the last couple of years.) At the Torre del Lago, home of Puccini, there are open air performances of his operas.

Every third weekend on the month, throughout the year, there is a massive antique/bric a brac market in Lucca, and the city hosts numerous other events.

Near Ponte a Moriano there are a number of stunning villas, most important of which is the Villa Reale. The impressive gardens are open March to November.

The city of Florence is easily reached by car, or by train from Lucca.

Lucca / Casoli area

Casoli piccolo borgo Medioevale - our very own Medieval festival, held in the village on the last Saturday of July.

Florence is an easy drive from Casoli, and the city of Lucca, just 45 minutes away by car, is considered one of the finest walled cities in Italy. The landscape of this part of Tuscany is not the traditional Tuscan scene of rolling hills and Cypress trees. The region is dominated by mountain ranges (the ski resort of Abetone is just 20 minutes drive away from Casoli), and hills covered in chestnut trees.

Being on top of the mountain means that it's a short journey into Bagni di Lucca for a supermarket shop, but there's a shop/snack bar in the village which provides basic provisions, and we are happy to sort out your food and drink requirements if required.

Obviously because of the setting the cottage is not really suitable for people with walking disabilities or small children. The Ktchen is well equipped, bathrooms both practical and attractive, and the beds are supremely comfortable!

Further details outdoors:
The private terrace is equipped with tables, seating and umbrellas.
