With one double plus one and one twin/triple bedroom, the villa is ideal for families, with plenty in the surrounding area to see and do during your stay.

Villa Maura is situated in a peaceful and panoramic location, immersed in the green hills of the Parco delle Cerbaie and in the Padule di Fucecchio (unique area where even storks come to nest). It is located in the heart of Tuscany, with the art cities of Pisa, Lucca, Siena, Firenze within easy reach and many lesser know treasures still to be explored nearby.

There is a beautiful swimming pool, situated in our own characteristic olive grove.

The villa has modern forniture. Private indoor parking. In Fucecchio and the immediate surroundings one can find typical restaurants, pizzerie, wineries, characteristic shops, shopping centres, sports grounds (tennis, golf, horse-back riding facilities).

The Tuscany region

Tuscany harbours the classic landscapes of Italy, familiar from Renaissance paintings and TV travel shows alike, and its medieval hill-towns, rows of slender cypress trees, vineyards and olive groves, and artfully sited villas and farmhouses have long held an irresistible attraction.

Tuscany is the essence of Italy in many ways. The national language evolved from the Tuscan dialect, a supremacy ensured by Dante, Petrarch and Boccaccio. But what makes this area pivotal to the culture of Italy and all of Europe is the Renaissance (this name, "rebirth" of the arts, was coined by Tuscan Giorgio Vasari in the sixteenth century) which fostered painting, sculpture and architecture that comprise an intrinsic part of a Tuscan tour.

Florence was the most active centre of the Renaissance, flourishing principally through the all-powerful patronage of the Medici dynasty. Every eminent artistic figure from Giotto onwards – Masaccio, Brunelleschi, Alberti, Donatello, Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo – is represented here, in an unrivalled gathering of churches, galleries and museums.

Siena is one of the great medieval cities of Europe, almost perfectly preserved, and with superb works of art in its religious and secular buildings. Its beautiful Campo – the central, scallop-shaped market square – is the scene, too, of Tuscany's one unmissable festival, the Palio.

Other major cities, Pisa and Lucca, provide convenient entry points to the region, either by air (via Pisa's airport) or along the coastal rail route from Genoa. Tucked away to the west and south of Siena are dozens of small hill-towns that epitomize the region. San Gimignano is the best-known, and is worth visiting as much for its spectacular array of frescoes as for its much-photographed bristle of medieval tower-houses.

Montepulciano, Pienza and Cortona are each superbly located and dripping with atmosphere, but the best candidates for a Tuscan hill-town escape are little-mentioned places such as Volterra, Massa Maríttima or Pitigliano, in each of which tourism has yet to undermine local character.

Tuscany's climate is one of the most hospitable in the world year-round. The nicest time to visit, in terms of the weather and lack of crowds, is April to late June, when the weather is fantastic - it's not too hot, it's not too rainy and there won't be as many other travelers. Or if you'd like to wander around the towns and cities in the brisk fall with the colourful foliage, the autumn months will be ideal for your trip.

The landscape is beautiful at this time, so that's an added bonus. If you're planning to swim, however, hot and dry summer months of July and August will be perfect for you. Winter months are usually the least busy. It can get cold, but you can still enjoy a trip here during this time.

Lucca / Fucecchio area

We are located in an ideal place. Quiet yet just “a stone’s throw” from Tuscany’s most popular tourist attractions. In less than one hour you can be on the beach, in Florence, on the leaning tower, on the walls of Lucca, playing golf, riding a horse, at the zoo with your children or at Pinocchio's! Maps of different trails suitable for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts available. You can go on foot (nordic walking), by bike, even by car.

Thankfully, the local area is not a mass tourist destination (yet). In most of the restaurants in the immediate surroundings it is unlikely that you might find a menu in English, so you are advised to carry a phrase book unless you speak Italian. People in general will be friendly and try to help even if you don't speak a common language.
