The Tuscany region
Casa Valeria is set in the Media Valle del Serchio just north west of Lucca. It is a mountainous area with the Apennines on one side of the Serchio river and the Apuan Alps on the other side. The house is on the Apennines side of the valley set above the river Lima which flows into the Serchio. The area is known for its superb flora and fauna and small hill top villages where medieval churches often have frescoes and carvings so that visitors can make genuine discoveries. It is excellent walking country.
Lucca area
Bagni di Lucca is a spa town known in the 18th Century as a minor stopping off point for gentlemen doing the Grand Tour of Europe. It has the oldest casino in Europe (recently restored). Today it still retains a faded elegance from those times. It also has a pleasant bustle of tourism with ice cream parlours, bars and restaurants, ranging from lively local trattorias to elegant and sophisticated where you can enjoy the height of gourmet cooking. There is also a summer season of concerts and theatre. Bagni di Lucca is on the river Lima in the valley while Casa Valeria is on the hills above the town which can be reached on foot down a track - it's steep coming back up though! The swimming pool is naturally heated and is down the track below the property.
A great treat for visitors is to visit the spa, a short stroll away down the lane. Here you can relax in a steaming grotto, enjoy an all over mud bath, have a pedicure, a facial or whatever takes your fancy. Details and prices can be sent on request.
Another advantage is that Casa Valeria is only about 35 mins drive away from Lucca. Visitors can also leave their car at the local station and go by train or catch the bus from the centre of town. Florence, Pisa and the sea are all possible for a day out.
How to get there
- Fly to Pisa with Ryan Air or BA - We can organise your car hire at very competitive rates (please enquire) - Other airports are Florence and Genoa.
