You will find typical product of Tuscany

The Tuscany region

Lucca is in the North of Tuscany.

Outdide Lucca you can plunge into a deep and shadowy greenery of the most beautiful Villa’s parks of Lucchesia. Especially in springtime evrrything is a “triumph” of flowers: very well kept flowerbeds, camellias alleys, centuries-old trees and very rare plants.

You can easily reach other historic cities as Pisa (20 km) or Florence (65 km), but also the beach of Viareggio (24 km) or Natural Parks as Migliarino-San Rossore or Alpi Apuane (30 km).

Cooking and food are very important elements of a population culture and their ingredients are rightly part of the landscape were smells and flavours survive in the memories as essential elements of a split of civilization.

Wheat, maize, wine, oil, chestnuts are the basis of traditional recipes enriched with farmyard animal meats or some fishes. And more bacon fat from Colonnata, chicks peas, beans and lentils, the home made pasta, delicate cheese and spelt in its typical preparations not only are great rediscoveries but also exploitation of poor foods full of history and meanings.

Lucca deserves to be seen and admired not only for the works of art in encloses, but also for being a rare and precious example of an almost intact historic centre.

The urban structure is has remained typically Roman-medieval.

In Lucca there are many hidden corner to discover.

The house is near San Donato door, one of the most ancient doors in the historical, beautiful walls, characteristic of the city.

You can easily reach the house walking from Piazzale Verdi (200 m, bus station). The railway station is 800 m away.

Near the house, you can find a small Tuscan restaurant with typical cuisine where you can appreciate “tastes of old times”.

The walls are close to the house. You can walk over, or rent a bike for the tour (4 km. long). You can take a rest in a green environment of Baluardo S.Croce or in the funfair park of Piazza San Donato.

The historic centre of Lucca is interdicted to the cars and car parking are paying. Free car parks are outside walls.

The city centre can be easily crossed by foot. You can appreciate the little medieval streets full of artisan shops and monuments as Torre Guinigi, Torre delle Ore, Piazza Anfiteatro, Palazzo Orsetti, Cattedrale San Martino, Chiesa San Michele, San Frediano.

"A lovely apartment in a lovely city"

This was a real find - a lovely apartment within the city walls so only a few minutes to the centre, but quiet and peaceful - even in the middle of the Lucca Summer Music Festival! The apartment itsel… More

"Best Place Ever"

Stayed at this wonderful little flat right in the heart of the old Lucca city. Perfect place to stay. Stayed there an entire month and found it a perfect place to take the many day trips to near by areas.. I also loved hanging out on the balcony in the evenings watching the rhythms of life pass by. Went to many concerts in the town of Lucca.. there was live music every night of the week.
The apartment was clean and everything was in good working order. Very homey place to stay.. If I had any questions Miss Simminnetta was available 24/7.
I took a cooking class and practiced what I learned in the well equipted kitchen.
what a wonderful relaxing month I had and was very sad to leave. Will probably do it again sometime.

"It was very nice, very clean, very comfortable and we had al we needed"

One thing we missed a little bit was a coffeepercolator. The rest was all ok. Just a few little things : it was difficult to get in with the key because the lock of door went open very difficult. We could'n get acces to internet and the television was out of work. But these are peanuts because.

"Perfect home away from home"

This was my fourth stay at Il Mattonicino. The location is perfect -- on a quiet street inside the walls of Lucca, yet close to the center, convenient for spending extended periods of time exploring all of the sites of this beautiful and interesting City. The apartment has been beautifully restored and is comfortable for either short or long term visits. The apartment also gives you easy access to both the bus and train stations for day trips to other Tuscan towns. The quality of food in Lucca is extremely high with a wide range of restaurants, varying from more formal dining to delightful local/family spots. A word must also be said about Annalisa, the owner and Simonetta, the agent. They are both extremely thoughtful, friendly and very helpful.

"Real Italian Neighbour. La Dolci Vita. Loved it"

The apartment was very clean and airy. Very friendly people and near to all the sites and the bus station but really quiet at night. So relaxing lying on the sofa in the heat of the day with all the windows open listening to the lovely music coming from one of the apartment across the street and the the lady next door singing quietly whilst doing her housework. There was no problem with booking or access to the property as both the owner and the lady who gave me the keys were very nice and helpful. Will definitely stay there again.

Thank you very much for your nice reviewu, I'm happy you like my home and hope you will retourne in Lucca in the next seasons. I wish you an happy new year and Good Cristmas.
Warm regards,
Annalisa Baldini
