Castello 6 is in a little hamlet . It has a covered terrace with outdoor furniture. it doesn't have a private garden but because of it's rural location you are free to walk where ever you wish; through the olive groves, vineyard and the beautiful countryside surrounding the hamlet.
There are old mule paths crisscrossing the countryside. Before Castello had a road the only way down was by the mule path. It still exists although is seldom used but if you feel adventurous the walk down to the village of Valdottavo is about 15 minutes. Another path takes you up through the woods above Castello and eventually leads to a simple country restaurant which opens for Easter Sunday and Monday and then from the beginning of June to the end of summer. The walk up takes around 40 minutes and is a great excursion for Sunday lunch!
Prices quoted are for four persons; the charge for a fifth guest is £70 per week. There is no charge for one child under the age of three years with four visitors. A cot and high chair are available at £20 a week inclusive.
Prices include electricity and gas; (excluding heating) and hot and cold water. Full central heating is available and wood for the wood burning stove. Payment should be made at Castello.
Bed linen and bath towels are available to hire. Bath towels should not be taken out of the house. The linen will be placed in the house for your arrival.
Payment. 30% (In sterling or Euros) of the total rental on registration, the balance 8 weeks before your visit. If the booking is made within 8 weeks then the whole payment is due on registration.
Personal Insurance & Cancellation Cover. In the very unlikely event that my houses become unavailable, I reserve the right to cancel a booking. I strongly recommend that you take out personal insurance at the time of booking to include cancellation cover. If you have to cancel your visit, should you do this more than 8 weeks before your holiday is due to begin, I will try to re-let and deduct any cost from your deposit. If I am unable to re-let then I will retain the deposit. If you cancel less than 8 weeks before, I will retain the deposit and you will also be liable for the remaining balance unless I have been able to re-let.
Conditions. Damage to the property or breakage should be reported and paid for before you leave Castello and if any problem arises in the house while you are there please talk to me about it. The house must be vacated by 10.00 am to allow preparation for the next visitors. Please do not arrive before 3.00pm. The house will be open and the keys in the door. Please leave the house in a clean and orderly state when you leave. There is parking space for one car very close to each property; cars are parked at owner's risk.

My house in Castello is just 15 kms north of Lucca, one of the most beautiful and unique cities in Tuscany and just 2 kms from the friendly village of Valdottavo with shops, bars and resaurant.
Lucca is a charming and beautiful city, with its priceless art treasures, narrow cobbled streets flanked by imposing palazzos, secluded squares, gardens and many, many churches.
Whilst retaining all the elements of its age and history one finds sophisticated shops bars and restaurants.
On the third weekend of every month there is a fantastic antiques fair which lasts for 2 days.
Throughout the summer months there are various classical and the now famous Lucca Summer Festival. We have had David Bowie, Elton John, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen and many other big names.
The most important date on the religious calender for Lucca is September 13th. The festival of the Luminaria di Santa Croce takes place. At nightfall the city is transformed, lit by candles and burning torches with processions with medieval dress and drummers drumming, it is like stepping back in time and well worth visiting.
On top of the medieval walls which enclose Lucca there are wide and shady tree lined avenues. Here the locals cycle, walk their dogs and promenade. There are grassy ramparts ideal for relaxing after sight seeing or you can hire bikes and ride around the 4 kilometers of wall. A great way to see the city from up high.
The Puccini open air Opera Festival takes place every year in the summer on Lake Massaciuccoli at Torre del Lago, south of Viareggio. The open air stage with the back drop of the lake and mountains is very atmospheric. a must for opera lovers.
Local activities include swimming, tennis, walking, cycling, fishing, horse riding, mountain biking, hiking, the beach with wind surfing and surfing lessons available.
