Home description
The apartment is on the first floor of a traditional house in the centre of Lucca. In the early 1900’s the apartment used to be a workshop where floor tiles were hand painted with traditional designs that were popular in well-to-do Lucca houses of the time. These tiles are now increasingly rare and form a lovely background to the living room and kitchen in this charming apartment.
Apart from the tiled floor, the living room has fresh white walls, comfortable furniture and some very nice prints and pictures on the walls. More than anything however, the room is dominated by the view of Piazza Cittadella from the windows (see photo) which, with its restaurants and bars, people coming and going and its statue of Puccini, takes you to the very heart of Italian life.
Because of its central location, the apartment is ideally placed for visitors who want to treat themselves to a truly Italian experience whatever the time of year, while having their own space to return to which is both charming and comfortable.

The Tuscany region
Tuscany is a large and varied region of Italy. It is best known as the home of Florence (Firenze in Italian) where the renaissance of art and sculpture began in the 15th Century. Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo both came from Florence. Galileo who proved that the earth goes round the sun also came from Tuscany. He was a native of Pisa and did experiments from the top of the world famous leaning tower.
Lucca is the provincial capital of this part of Tuscany. It is a medieval city on a plain and is still completely surrounded by its 16th Century walls. It has rightly become a noted tourist destination. The rolling hills around Lucca are famous for olive oil production.
Lucca area
Lucca is fast catching up with Siena as people's favourite city. It is a busy, bustling city, smaller than Siena and one of its enormous charms lies in the fact that it is still surrounded by its city walls, completed in 1645 to replace the medieval walls, which in turn replaced the original Roman walls. The centuries of history contained within the walls, from medieval churches to 18th C villas, are impossible to sum up in a few brief sentences; a few suggestions for holiday activities are: - hiring bikes and cycling round the walls (4.5kms round) - culture, music, theatre and art exhibitions are held throughout the city. - eating. Lucca restaurants are famous, ranging from pizza and salad places to the highest of 'haute cuisine'. - sightseeing; Lucca is an excellent transport hub, good for visiting Florence, Pisa, Viareggio and the Garfagnana
How to get there
