Home description
Casa al Colle is set within a deeply rural area of rolling hills dotted with olive trees, woods and small vineyards. The house been constructed from a hay barn of 1663, the owners’ house next door being the original farmhouse. The main part of the barn would have contained hay with the animals housed below.
The pool is set above the house on the side away from the owner's house. It is for the private use of visitors and is undoubtedly the main focus of a holiday there. Loungers, sun umbrellas and children's blow up toys are provided and the view is stupendous. Apart from the pool, there are country walks both directly from the house and, for keen walkers, a short drive away in the Apuan Alps. Medieval Lucca is only 8 kms away.

The Tuscany region
Tuscany is a large and varied region of Italy. It is best known as the home of Florence (Firenze in Italian) where the renaissance of art and sculpture began in the 15th Century. Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo both came from Florence. Galileo who proved that the earth goes round the sun also came from Tuscany. He was a native of Pisa and did experiments from the top of the world famous leaning tower.
Lucca is the provincial capital of this part of Tuscany. It is a medieval city on a plain and is still completely surrounded by its 16th Century walls. It has rightly become a noted tourist destination. The rolling hills around Lucca are famous for olive oil and wine production.
Lucca / Piana di Lucca area
The Moriano district just to the north and west of Lucca is an agricultural area of small hamlets and farmsteads that date back to Roman times. It still provides much of the fruit and vegetable sold in the shops and markets of Lucca and the surrounding villages. Casa al Colle is in Santo Stefano di Moriano just 1 km away from the main village of Ponte a Moriano. The rolling hills surrounding the house have the typically ‘Tuscan’ feel of the Colline Lucchese and are dotted with cypress trees and olive trees which produce the world famous Lucca olive oil. Further to the north, the hills turn into the peaks and heights of the Apuan Alps while to the west lies the coastal plain and the sea.

A cot for a baby with bedding is also provided.
Further details outdoors: From the kitchen another door leads directly onto a lawn with gazebo for eating out. This is an excellent area for children to play or for taking morning tea or coffee.
