Peaceful location in unspoilt Tuscan village with all amenities.
Recently renovated with sympathy for original features: independent entrance & hall, spacious living area with fully fitted kitchen, double sofa bed and a further sofa, large double bedroom (double or 2 single beds) and bathroom with shower. Traditional beamed & terracotta ceilings throughout. Outside there is an ancient pizza oven, private patio 12sqm (with table, chairs and parasol) and gardens (1000sqm private and shared), with beautiful views of Castelvecchio, the Pisan Mountains and the plain below. The main village is 300m walk away through olive groves, where you will find a bar, baker's, pizzeria and some shops. There are many restaurants in the area. You can enjoy a varied holiday: relaxing in the garden & wandering through the village, visiting cultural cities & hill-top towns (being south of Lucca this is an excellent location for exploring Tuscany), walking in marshlands or mountains, sunbathing on the beach or by the local pool. English owners always available for advice. The beautiful walled city of Lucca is 20 minutes away, Pontedera is 20 minutes away with fast trains to Pisa, Florence and beyond.

The Tuscany region
Tuscany is a well loved holiday destination both for its cultural heritage and its beautiful countryside, as well as its wonderful food, wine and olive oil. You can enjoy living in a friendly village surrounded by unspoilt hills and mountains. You can also visit the important cities of Lucca, Pisa, Florence, Siena, San Gimignano and Volterra as well as lesser known hill-top towns in the area. The summer is fairly long, with warm weather usually arriving by April. July and August are hot, September is very warm and sunny and in October it's generally still quite warm.
The best beaches are 40 minutes away by car at Marina di Vecchiano, where you will find private and public beaches. Viareggio resort is 35mins away with lots of private beaches, day and night life. Livorno is 40 minutes away where you can get a ferry to many of the Mediterranean islands. La Spezia and Cinque Terre, to the north, offer spectacular beach views.
There are many festivals to enjoy throughout the year, always involving special foods, with each local area celebrating in their own particular tradition.
Cooking Courses, Wine Tours, Olive Tours, Horse Riding, language classes and Art tours can all be arranged locally.
LUCCA is a beautiful city surrounded by fabulous walls, wide enough to walk or ride a bike on and enjoy the view both of the historic city with its beautiful architecture and the surrounding countryside. It is less invaded by tourists than many Tuscan cities, so you can experience the atmosphere of real Italian daily life, whilst visiting the many museums, churches, restaurants, bars and shops.
COLLE DI COMPITO village is a 300m walk from the apartment through the olive groves, for which this area is world famous, where you will find a bar, fantastic baker's, greengrocer's, general stores and butcher's. A bank, post office, further bars and a small supermarket are also within easy walking distance. There are many restaurants in the area and two only a short walk. Pisa airport is 35 minutes. We can send you bus, train and plane times. This is an excellent location to tour Northern Tuscany and beyond and yet the village is beautiful in a fantastic setting between Mountain and Marsh, if you just want to relax surrounded by nature. You can get snacks at all the bars and the nearest restaurant is 5mins walk. There are many restaurants less than 10 minutes by car and we will be glad to offer directions or arrange taxis.
The village has a lovely feel and the people are very welcoming, many locals will try and speak English. All summer the locals meet at Il Campo, a playground with Tennis, Volley ball, Football and bocce (a kind of bowls), from 9:00 in the evening until the early hours, every generation is there and you would be made most welcome.
The walking is fantastic from the house, straight onto Monte Sera, down to the marshes with WWF site of World Importance, or through the olive groves and ancient villages of the Compitese.
Walking: Village 5min; shops, bars, butchers, bakers. Nearest Restaurant 5 minute walk. 2nd nearest Restaurant 10 minute walk. Bus stop 3min Lucca 25min/Pontedera 25min.
Driving: Lucca 20mins. Pontedera 20mins. Pisa 30mins. Florence 45 min. Volterra 45mins, San Gimignano 70mins, Siena 90 mins (all 3 on the same road - makes a nice day trip). Massa Carrara 35min.
By train from Pontedera: Florence 40mins. Pisa 10mins. Grosseto 40mins. From Florence-Bologna 1h. Milan 2h. Rome 2.5h.

"Overall excellent! Hosts are extremely welcoming. Fantastic location. Real Italy."
A light, clean apartment with all the facilities we needed for a very comfortable stay.
The hosts are extremely welcoming and happy to help. We were able to make use of the garden area and the children loved playing in the shared temporary pool.
The location is superb, a quiet Italian village which we could explore and get a real feel for Italian village life. It is within some beautiful countryside and enjoys lovely views of the local hillside castle. A short drive to both Lucca and Pisa, what more could you want?

We had a lovely week's stay at Lucy, Clive and family's beautiful home. The apartment was clean and spacious with 2 comfortable sofas for sitting on inside. It was very well equipped with large fridge freezer and good cooking facilities. We did feel that this apartment is better for one couple or a close family as you have to walk through the living room/sofa bed sleeping area to get to the bathroom which could be awkward during the night!! There is a TV but that didn't work to get programmes (which didn't bother us at all) but there are plenty of DVDs. As it was quite cool most evenings we did watch some films which for us was great as we don't have much time to do that at home! The property is in a good location to visit lots of places. We loved Lucca which is a beautiful old walled town not too far away, and Pisa is a must. We had quite an experience visiting Florence! We decided to go by train but unfortunately they chose the day we travelled to go on strike! A train eventually came nearly 2 hours after we got to the station. Florence was VERY busy but we had a lovely meal in a restaurant recommended by Lucy and she also told us where to get cheaper ice cream! We are not city people and we did find Florence hectic. I think you need a bit more time than we had and a better itinerary (we didn't have one at all!!) - and no striking trains! It was our first visit to Tuscany, which we thought was lovely, and we couldn't have chosen a better place to stay. We were glad we only had a small car as the road to Colle Farmhouse is very narrow. Lucy, Clive and family made us feel very welcome and Lucy was always around to give advice on places to visit. Just one small thing - this is a family home with 4 energetic boys, and you do hear some noise from the family above. This didn't bother us at all, but if you do want to be completely quiet then maybe this isn't the place for you, However we loved it and would willingly stay there again if we were in that area.
Thank you for your honest review!

"Wonderful Tuscany experience"
A beautiful property in a unique rural setting surrounded by olive groves. Walking distance to the nearby picturesque village which has little grocery shops , bakers, butchers and a lovely cafe. There are also 2-3 lovely restaurants nearby. An ideal location central to exploring all the towns and countryside of Tuscany. Lucy and Clive were very hospitable and very helpful with maps, timetables and directions. Loved the beaches. Visited the stunning city of Lucca, The tower at Pisa and the wonders of Florence.

"Splendid Base for Experiencing Tuscany"
Beautiful apartment set in rural Tuscany with close connections to the cities of Lucca, Pisa and Florence. Public transport is somewhat limited but still manageable if you are prepared to spend the evenings in the village (there is a bar and a restaurant located close by - 5/10min walk along with a fairly large supermarket). Welcoming and supportive hosts who provided maps of the local cities and advised where the cheapest ice cream shops etc were. Me and my friend were backpacking so we found it a useful location to base ourselves for a few days and see a few places utilising buses/trains. Pisa airport is not to far away via car but I would recommend speaking to the owners about appropriate transport methods if you were not using a car (we were travelling by train into Lucca).

"Beautiful Tuscany retreat set in idyllic scenery with easy access to Lucca, Florence, Pisa and more."
Clive and Lucy were excellent hosts giving recommendations for places to eat both locally and in Lucca, Florence and Pisa ,which we followed and were not disappointed, getting quality and an authentic Italian experience .The apartment was stunning with a beautiful terrace and back drop of the local mountains and olive groves. We shall be returning as there is just too much to see or do in one week.

"A wonderful introduction to the timeless beauty of Tuscany."
A great holiday combining the rustic charm of Tuscany with the beauty and history of the area. The apartment was spotless and had all the facilities required. Clive and Lucy were on hand to give that extra advice only known to a local that made the trip extra special. We have already recommended the apartment to friends and look forward to returning in the near future.

"A lovely rural location in Tuscany with friendly and helpful hosts."
This was our first time in Italy and we couldn't have chosen a better location. The countryside of Tuscany is stunning. The farmhouse was situated in a lovely village with local shops, pleasant walks and restaurants within walking distance. It was easy to go sightseeing either by bus or train or by car. Lucca, the mountain area, Piza, Florence, Vinci and the coast were easily to get to and not too far away as was Sienna.
Lucy, Clive and their charming four boys made us so very welcome. They gave us lots of useful information on the local area and directions. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They lent us a D.V.D on a wet day and took us to the local church flower service. All the locals were very pleasant and helpful.
The accommodation was rustic, comfotable and typically Italian.
We would recommend this property and will certainly be returning.
Thank you for your great review and we look forward to hosting you both again!

"Beautiful escape in rural Tuscany"
We spent a week in this self-catering accommodation. It has beautiful views of nearby Castelvecchio which is well worth a visit. It is perfectly located to visit Pisa, Florence, Lucca and surrounding towns and Cities. We conducted our visit by public transport - whilst this was achievable and the train system was well serviced, the buses to the nearby station were rather infrequent and we would recommend hiring a car to get about.
This village is small, peaceful, and has the most amazing pizzaria (Pizzaria Shalomi) which I can highly recommend. Lucy and Clive were very helpful - nothing was too much trouble, and the delivery of some board games on a very rainy day was very much appreciated. As the apartment is below the family home, you cannot escape the sound of a busy family in the neighboring property so if you are looking to get away from everyone and everything, this might not suit. However, for us it was thoroughly enjoyable and we would certainly recommend it for a couple looking for a getaway.

"Such a convenient location to visit all the sights of Tuscany."
We spent a week with Lucy, Clive and their boys in Colle di Compito and although the weather was not what we had hoped for, there was always plenty to do within the area. We visited Lucca, Pisa, Florence, Vinci and Sienna without any travel difficulties so a perfect location to see the sights of beautiful Tuscany.
The apartment was lovely and had everything we needed for the week (including a selection of good books to while away a quiet hour or two)
We speak virtually no Italian but Lucy and Clive made trips out tremendously easy - how to get there, where to park, maps and information booklets. Thank you.
