The Tuscany region

Lucca is a beautiful, largely undiscovered city, a 30 minute drive from Pisa and 1 hour from Florence. Monte San Quirico is an exclusive residential area just to the north of Lucca, over the river Serchio, with good links by car, bike or bus into the centre.

The weather and climate in Lucca is warm and pleasant in the spring, summer and early Autumn, with lots of sun. Due to its proximity to the coast, it benefits from summer breezes, perfect for al fresco dining.

Away from Lucca there are many grand villas with gardens, in the surrounding countryside. Pisa, Florence and Siena are within driving distance or can be reached from Lucca via the extensive railway and bus network.

Lucca

Lucca is famous for its links to Puccini. Also famous for its impressive city walls built in the 12th century, which serve as a wide boulevard for walking and cycling. The historic centre has many exclusive shops, palaces, towers and churches, along with works of art by renowned artists such as Tintoretto and Ghirlandaio.

Lucca has many fashionable shops, good restaurants and cafes. . Along the main shopping street lies the oval Piazza Anfiteatro, built on the foundations of the original Roman amphitheatre. The impressive city walls provide a good route for walking and cycling, with bikes to hire nearby. Lucca hosts many festivals throughout the year. Music festivals in July attract international stars such as Elton John, Joe Cocker, BB King and James Blunt. The comic festival takes place in October.

Local activities include days out at the Versilia coast beaches and Cinque Terre, hill walking in the Garfagnana, visits to San Gimignano and skiing during winter in the Apennines. Other things to do include serious and recreational cycling, cookery schools, wine tours, learning Italian and one could even get married in Tuscany!

"A lovely place to stay"

A spacious and very well equipped apartment very conveniently situated just outside the lovely city of Lucca. We had a rental car, which we found was necessary for getting to the station or anywhere else, and also for buying groceries etc. Set up on the hill we found the apartment quiet and restful and also liked the security of a padlocked gate at night. Everything we needed for our stay was in the apartment and we particularly appreciated the mosquito protectors on the doors!

"Comfortable, well appointed apartment in lovely peaceful setting."

A lovely apartment which exceeded our expectations. It is well appointed and the beds are very comfortable. The location was perfect for us - very peaceful whilst being only a few minutes drive from all that Lucca has to offer. An excellent base for sightseeing.

"Great flat in peaceful location"

When booking, we had some reservations about staying outside of Lucca, but upon arrival they were immediately dispelled.

The flat was very clean, well-equipped and comfortable. It was a real joy after a day's activity to come back to the peace and quiet of the flat and to sit on the terrace looking out towards the hills whilst being serenaded by birds and bull frogs!

It was only a five minute drive to a large free car park (located about 200 metres from the city walls), supermarket etc.

The flat was well positioned for day trips to Florence, Pisa, Viareggio (a must for boat lovers!) and many more.

We have already highly recommended this flat to friends!
