Home description
The apartment is within an eighteenth century 'palazzo' that is part of a lively street in central Lucca. Locals cycle along the street on their way to work or to do the shopping, tourists holding maps wander along while immediately on hand there are bars, shops, churches and museums.
The palazzo itself was commissioned by a certain Lorenzo Orsucci, a rich Lucca nobleman who chose a particularly original style still evident today in the elaborate crest over the front door and the spacious entrance hall with staircases leading up on either side.
Within the apartment the note of style is immediately apparent from the simple (in the best sense of the word) antique furniture, parquet flooring and a large and interesting painting (by the owner's brother in law) on the wall opposite the front door. The bedroom is a very pleasant room with a view across the roofs and bell-towers of Lucca from the window. The living / dining room is also most attractive room with beamed celing, paintings on the wall and two sofas for relaxing, one of which doubles as a sofa-bed. The living room enjoys the same roof-top view as the bedroom and leads into the separate and well-equipped 'galley' kitchen, again stylishly fitted out.

The Tuscany region
Tuscany is a large and varied region of Italy. It is best known as the home of Florence (Firenze in Italian) where the renaissance of art and sculpture began in the 15th Century. Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo both came from Florence. Galileo who proved that the earth goes round the sun also came from Tuscany. He was a native of Pisa and did experiments from the top of the world famous leaning tower.
Lucca is the provincial capital of this part of Tuscany. It is a medieval city on a plain and is still completely surrounded by its 16th Century walls. It has rightly become a noted tourist destination. The rolling hills around Lucca are famous for olive oil production.
Lucca area
Lucca is fast catching up with Siena as people's favourite city. It is a busy, bustling city, smaller than Siena and one of its enormous charms lies in the fact that it is still surrounded by its city walls, completed in 1645 to replace the medieval walls, which in turn replaced the original Roman walls. The centuries of history contained within the walls, from medieval churches to 18th C villas, are impossible to sum up in a few brief sentences; a few suggestions for holiday activities are: - hiring bikes and cycling round the walls (4.5kms round) - culture, music, theatre and art exhibitions are held throughout the city. - eating. Lucca restaurants are famous, ranging from pizza and salad places to the highest of 'haute cuisine'. - sightseeing; Lucca is an excellent transport hub, good for visiting Florence, Pisa, Viareggio
How to get there
Fly to Pisa (Ryan Air from Stansted / BA from Gatwick), then Lazzi bus from airport to Lucca (50 mins). Also, if preferred, city bus or taxi to Pisa Centrale railway station (5mins from airport) then train to Lucca (20mins)
