Lucca - Garfagnana / Barga area
Barga is on the edge of the mountainous Garfagnana area in Northern Tuscany. The area is sunny, stunning and within easy reach of Lucca, Pisa, Florence, Siena and the seaside.
There is a train station in the nearby town of Barga Gallicano or Fornaci di Barga. Services are cheap and regular, and connect with the major towns and cities in the region.
Barga has regular open air food festivals, numerous music and cultural festivals (including Barga Jazz), an opera house and art galleries. Local attractions include markets, tennis, horse riding, swimming, walking, the marble mountains, the caves of the wind, Lucca (23m). Viareggio and the coast (37m). Florence (66m) and Siena (106m).

Ryanair, Easy jet and Jet 2 fly to Pisa from various UK airports.
Car hire through Ryanair is reasonable and there are several car hire companies based at Pisa Airport.

Further details indoors: The house is typical of the region and is believed to be more than 150 years old. It has been entirely renovated and redecorated, with traditional features such as chestnut beams and terracotta floors largely retained.
It is situated at the front of the village and forms part of a block with 2 other similar houses. Its position offers spectacular and uninterrupted views of the valley.
The property has three double bedrooms (one of which has two single beds), dining kitchen, living room, and family bathroom.
Further details outdoors: There is a sunny garden, and a large outside terrace for al fresco dinners. Beside the terrace is a well equipped summer kitchen with dining area, games, and table football. In the summer months there is a small inflatable above ground dipping pool (10x10 feet) on the grass area, which is cleaned and maintained by the property manager.
Catagnana is peaceful and unspoilt, with buildings dating back to the eighteenth century. It has majestic views over the Serchio Valley and is a convenient starting point for hillside and forest walks to the surrounding villages.
