Casa Ortenzia is situated in the village of Gioviano, a very pretty, well-tended and friendly village in the hills above the River Serchio, 10 km from Barga and about 7km from the well known spa town of Bagni di Lucca. Lucca is only about 35km away, while Pisa Airport is 45km. There is a very large "Le Clerc" supermarket 5 minutes' drive away in Gallicano.
The accommodation is set over two floors with two double bedrooms, a single bedroom and a shower room upstairs. Both double bedrooms have dual-aspect windows.
The ground floor is open-plan with a well-equipped kitchen and a sitting area with open fire.
Access to the lawned garden is via a gate to the side of the house. The garden provides a perfectly tranquil spot with spectacular views across the adjacent valley to the hills beyond.
The village is safe and traffic-free with it's own traditional general store in the church square. In Piano di Gioviano, (1.8 km away) is a restaurant / pizzeria. Casa Ortenzia is situated just 3 minutes' walk (200m)from the village car park.

The Tuscany region
Northern Tuscany is full of charm, culture and history and offers endless opportunities for walking amidst rugged and spectacular mountain scenery.
Nestling between the Apennies and the more rugged Apuan Alps, the area is characterised by beech and chestnut-covered hills set against a spectacular mountain backdrop.
Lucca is a 45-minute drive away and the coast about 1hour 15mins. The rail network also provides a cheap, quick and stress-free means of reaching the centres of Florence, Pisa and Lucca.
Lucca - Garfagnana / Gioviano area
Gioviano is a traditional, rural Tuscan village with rambling alleyways and a well-stocked village store in the church square. The villagers take particular pride in the upkeep of the houses and streets which are lined with colourful window boxes in the summer months.
Casa Ortenzia benefits from splendid views across the neighbouring valley from the house and garden on account of its location on the edge of the village. It is ideal for those wishing to get get away from it all while soaking up the atmosphere of a genuine, working Italian community.
The main road running between Lucca and Castelnuovo di Garfagnana is less than 5 minutes' drive away (1.8km), while Ghivizzano station is only 4.5km away. From there, trains run to the nearby cities of Lucca, Pisa and Florence.
How to get there
Nearest airports: Pisa and Florence. Easyjet and Ryanair both fly to Pisa, about 1hr away, (64km).
By road from Lucca, follow signs for Barga / Castelnuovo di Garfagnana / Garfagnana (SS12 / SS445). At Calavorno, turn left for Gioviano.

Further details indoors: The house has recently been completely refurbished to a very high standard and is airy, bright and immaculately maintained.
The lower floor is devoted to a large, open-plan living area with open fire, TV and a well-fitted and equipped kitchen. Beautiful granite stairs lead to the upper floor with bedrooms, storage room and shower room.
Bedroom One has a fine wrought iron bed and three windows, two of which overlook the garden area.
Bedroom Two, again, has a double bed and has dual aspect windows.
There is an additional single bedroom next to a tastefully-decorated shower room and also a very large storage cupboard, ideal for stashing suitcases etc.
Further details outdoors: Casa Ortenzia benefits from a safe, enclosed garden area beside the house. In the summer months the garden and ablaze with flowers.
Garden furniture is provided for guests to enjoy the tranquility and scents of the garden as well as the spectacular views towards the nearby hills.
