Home description
This three bedroom house on the Tuscan hills is ideally situated for activities, relaxing or a mixture of both. The village of Vico Pancellorum is located only 20 minutes from the historic spa town of Bagni di Lucca. The village is car free, as the cobbled streets are too narrow for vehicles. The house is a short walk from the car park through cobbled streets going downhill and uphill. There is a patio that overlooks the mountains. On the balcony is a gas barbeque for quick meals or full banquets depending on your fancy. The garden is private and hosts fruit trees and a hammock. There is plenty of room for children to play, explore and have wonderful adventures in a car free environment.

The Tuscany region
Tuscany is very well known among tourists. Not only for cities like Florence, Pisa and Siena, but also for its rich history and the outstanding wines from this region.
Lucca is a walled city located about 45km from the house. It has great shopping, cafes, bars, restaurants and piazzas (squares). Bike riding is the best way to see Lucca, and bike hire can be found near the city gates (porte).
Lucca - Garfagnana / Bagni di Lucca area
Antique markets are held on weekends in surrounding towns as well as Lucca. Lucca antique market is held on the third Sunday of every month in Piazza San Glusto and Piazza Antelminelli.
The Lucca Summer Music Fesival is fabulous. Concerts are held in Lucca throughout July in the evening. This year’s line-up included Elton John, Joss Stone, George Michael, Norah Jones, Ricky Martin, Steely Dan to name just a few. Tickets can be booked on the internet at www.ticketone.it.
The closest beach is located about an hour and 15 minutes away from the house at Camaiore. In July and August it is usually very crowded but in other months it may be very peaceful. The Cinque Terre is five beautiful hilltop villages along the Italian coastline. It is a great place for walking and swimming. They are located around 2 hours away depending on traffic.
Abetone is a great place for skiing and snowboarding in the winter as well a summer sport in the warmer months. Coming out of Vico turn left onto the main road and continue driving until you come to Abetone - approximately 30 minutes away.
The thermal spas - Terme Bagni di Lucca is worth a visit event just to have a tour of the natural stream grottoes (caves). A number of thermal treatments are also available including massages, facial and body treatments and beauty services, all at a cost. The thermal pool is also open to the public for a cost.
The canyon of Orrido di Borti - qualified guides lead excursions through this valley, very narrow and sunken created by erosion. Look for road signs on the main road on the left coming to Vico from Bagni di Lucca.
In and around Vico there are long walks through the hills which make a fine start to the day or a lovely stroll in the evening.
There are some great river spots to swim and fish between Bagni di Lucca and Vico (one good spot is near Ponte Maggio). Although cold in the cooler months, it is very refreshing and a beautiful place to swim.

Guestbook
Denise from the USA - 'We stayed at this lovely mountain villa in Vico in May 2007. The house is charming and comfortable with a large and modern bathroom. Beds were perfect for a good night`s sleep. The kitchen is well-equipped with lovely views of the mountains. Our favourite part was the garden, overlooking the mountains, so peaceful, the only sound you hear are the birds and church bells. We even had a gorgeous rainbow one afternoon. Vico itself is a delightful village with a fantastic family restaurant where all the locals gather. We ate there twice and loved it. Can't wait to return to Vico.'
Catherine from Italy - ‘Che vista bella!’ ‘What a beautiful view!’ Spectacular views, great kitchen, bathroom and coffee machine. The linen in the main bedrooms is very luxurious. Loved the Tuscan with an Asian twist décor. The local restaurant is tasty with many authentic dishes. I will be recommending this wonderful charming villa to all my friends. A great place to relax!
Ken Perkins ( Australia) - The access from this meticulously restored villa for day skiing in the Abetone mountains or sightseeing in the Historic walled city of Lucca makes for a versatile Tuscan holiday destination all year round. We will definitely be back
Catherine from Australia - A truly wonderful time resting, relaxing and enjoying the Tuscan lifestyle. The Villa is beautiful! Lovely decor, lovely views, lovely location.
In this stunning part of Italy sits Vico Pancellorum, a charming village with winding, cobbled streets, pastel-coloured houses and a photograph at every turn. Perfect for a relaxing break, the house is spacious and very well-appointed with tasteful furnishings. Views are breathtaking.
The local family-run restaurant serves the best food; pasta is hand made daily. White truffles, rabbit and wild boar are sourced locally off the mountain and the house wine is inexpensive and very good. We visited in summer and swam every day in the picturesque river.
We explored the local towns and villages, which have excellent, good value, coffee shops and restaurants. Lucca was especially splendid with an antique fair and great shopping. The re-opened, ancient spa at Bagna di Lucca is a must. Local delicatessens are a treasure trove of gourmet delights.
We loved it and will certainly return for another peaceful stay. Lynn and Glenn Taylor England.
