Home description
Near to the spa town of Bagni di Lucca, and an excellent base for holidaying in the Garfagnana, Tereglio is high enough to avoid the sweltering heat in the summer. The village extends along a ridge, so that there are great views in all directions and the air is good. Surrounding hillsides are mostly forested.
Our house is on three levels, with comfortable balconies on two of them affording unspoilt views of the Appennine and Apuane alps. The picturesque village street has no traffic, and there are a couple of shops and an excellent restaurant, with another restaurant within walking distance. We have another house further into the mountains and at least one of us is likely to be available in the vicinity to provide any help and advice needed. The house is thoroughly cleaned and the linen changed between visitors and once a week during your stay.

The Tuscany region
Tuscany is so rich in history and natural beauty that it is difficult to summarize. In range for day-trips are the historic centres of Lucca, Pistoia, Florence, and Pisa, various wine trails, the Appennine alps and the Apuane alps, and even the beaches of Viareggio. The nearby Lima valley is a centre for kayaking, In winter, the ski resorts of Abetone are only an hour away. Hill and mountain walking, and cycling are popular in the area. Food and drink are excellent.
Lucca - Garfagnana / Bagni di Lucca area
The Garfagnana and the Media Valle di Serchio is a region of Tuscany rich in local traditions. There are countless picturesque and interesting villages to explore, each with its own restaurant and local feasts. Barga, once a Medici stronghold, is a vibrant cultural centre with a music festival through the summer, regular jazz events, many artists including Bohn Bellany, who has lived there for many years. Bagni di Lucca is an ancient spa town, once frequented by Napoleon's court, later by Shelley and his contemporaries. There are markets in various towns on different days of the week.
The mountain climate is ever varied, so that the wonderful views are constantly changing. The scenery is predominantly forestedm but the Garfagnana is also a productive economy, with local wines and produce enriching the excellent food. The people are warm and welcoming, and will try to help make your stay enjoyable.
How to get there
Fly to Pisa. Rent car or train or bus service to Lucca and then to Bagni di Lucca. More details, maps, etc when booking.
