The Burgas Province region
Ropotamo national park at 15 km
Named after the Ropotamo river this nature reserve is home to rare birds and plants. It is especially known for red plankton, water lilies, turtles, cormorants and white-tailed eagles. Liana-like vines, and submerged tree roots give the area a jungle-like appearance. The Lion is a remarkable rock.
Strandzha national park at 20 km
This is the biggest nature reserve in Bulgaria: approximately 25 by 50 km, or 116,136 hectares. The mountainous area, forested with beech and oak, contains many rivers and rocky gorges. The highest peak is 709 meters. In the park are just a few small villages and transportation is still done by horse and cart. The rest is totally unspoilt nature where no farming is practiced. Many hundreds of wild boar and deer live here. European bird migration route Via Pontica runs through the park bringing the number of birds species to 261. The park is a paradise for hikers, fishermen, horseback riders, mountain bikers and bird watchers. Fire dancing is a remarkable ancient tradition still practiced here.
Sozopol at 25 km
Sozopol is at least three thousand years old and is the oldest settlement on the Black Sea. Situated on a peninsula, it is a museum of old wooden houses and small churches. The archaeological museum is small but worth a visit. Sozopol is more authentic than the better known cousin Nessebar situated near Sunny Beach.
Rezovo at 35 km
Moving south along the coastal road you will find Europe Alley, the most southern point of the European Union on the border with Turkey. This small town with a beautiful bay on the border of Rezovo river attracts a considerable number of day-trippers.
Burgas at 60 km
With 210,000 inhabitants, Burgas (also spelled Bourgas) is the fourth largest city in Bulgaria. It is particularly interesting to do some serious shopping. Expensive brands in boutiques, shops with very cheap imitations, or the large Metro store, you will find everything here.
Varna at 150 km
Varna has a beautiful cathedral and a great archaeological museum. Worthy of a visit in the Varna region are the 50 million years old Stone Forest and the Aladzha monastery carved into the rocks.
Istanbul at about 3 hours
You can use a (rental) car or coach to visit the magnificent metropolis Istanbul in Turkey which was for more than a thousand years (until 1453) the capital of the Byzantine Empire, then known as Constantinople.
Having lived in Bulgaria for around 10 years, I had extensively travelled the coast line, in search of my favourite resort. A laid back place which had the best beaches, clean, uncrowded and with golden sands. A destination which offered a good selection of bars and restaurants, catering for qualified taste buds on every budget. A resort which was child friendly, with plenty of activities – surfing, water sports and days out in the area. Somewhere with a truly great nightlife, but void of hordes of drunken teenagers or package holiday crowds. As soon as I arrived in Lozenets, I stopped looking (Testimonial by Ben Crushcov, director of Bulgarian Property Company).
PLACES TO VISIT
Oasis Beach at 25 meters
This is the ideal beach for sunbathing and swimming. On the other side of this wide and long beach is the Oasis Resort. For a fee you can use the indoor pool of Oasis Resort.
Lalov diving center at 400 meters
This diving center with decompression chamber is the largest in Bulgaria and offers diving courses for beginners as well as advanced divers leading to a PADI certificate. Here is a small but very nice beach that is accessible via a safe wooden staircase. Other sports in the area are snorkeling, kite and wind surfing, sailing, spear fishing, etc.
Secluded beaches and coves from 400 to 1200 meters
Thius are peaceful places for swimming, snorkeling, surfing, sunbathing, etc. Pure nature far from the crowds. Within walking distance of Oasis Beach.
Lalov diving center at 150 meters
This diving center with decompression chamber is the largest in Bulgaria and offers diving courses for beginners as well as advanced divers leading to a PADI certificate. Here is a small but very nice beach that only residents of Lalov and Oasis Beach Villa use. This beach is accessible via a safe wooden staircase. Other sports in the area are snorkeling, kite and wind surfing, sailing, spear fishing, etc.
Lozenets at 2km
This is the unofficial Saint Tropez of Bulgaria, the preferred holiday destination of celebrities from politics, media and business. Many of them possess lavish villas between Lozenets and Oasis Beach. The coastline is not marred by overdevelopment and high-rises as in Sunny Beach. Lozenets has a small marina and exudes a relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere with a dynamic nightlife. During the day the main beach and the small Tarfa Beach offer all beach pleasures from terrace-hopping to jet and water skiing. In the evening dine at one of the many seafood restaurants. For a snack in style an absolute must is the sushi bar overlooking the picturesque Tarfa Beach near the harbour: holidaying at its best.
Tsarevo at 7 km
Tsarevo is the administrative capital of the south coast and has a fishing port offering sea excursions. Here is your notary if you decide to buy a property. It has the only supermarket worthy of the name south of Sozopol. Only in 1913 Tsarevo was ceded to Bulgaria by Greece after the Balkan wars and it continues to show Greek influences.
Primorsko at 10 km
Primorsko is the largest and busiest resort south of Sozopol with two huge beaches (North and South Beach) and a very large number of eateries and bars. Of special interest are the port for seatrips, the airport for skydiving, and the aquatic center with water slides.
Dardaneli underwater caves at 12 km
Near Varvara one enjoys the most famous diving and snorkeling in the Black Sea with beautiful underwater caves and canyons.
Ritual site from Bronze Age at 15 km
Tash Beglik is Bulgaria's Stonehenge and dates from the fourteenth century B.C. Huge boulders are stacked in a place where animals and possibly humans were sacrificed to the sun god. It's about 2 km north of Primorsko's North Beach.
