The Cotswolds region

Online magazine AskMen.com has compiled a list of the top ten 'paradise' locations around the world that seem to have remained untouched by civilisation. The Cotswolds is 2nd Place!

The region is famous for its ancient mellow 'honey' coloured limestone villages that blend perfectly into the countryside and its bustling market towns. Many have scarcely altered since they grew up on the prosperity of the medieval wool trade in the 15th and 16th centuries and subsequently forgotten about for more then 300 years. This sequence of events now makes the Cotswolds region one of the most treasured, toured and vacationed in England and the UK for nowhere else will you see such timeless uniqueness and heart warming preservation on such a scale.

Many traditional villages within 15 minutes reach, offering tradition combined with chic

Ideal for antique hunters :visit the charming villages of Bourton on the Water (the Venice of the Cotswolds), Burford, Stow on the Wold, Moreton in Marsh and Chipping Camden (plus many others), the larger spa towns of Bath (a World Heritage Site) and Cheltenham (famed for it's beautiful Regency architecture) or Oxford (the city of dreaming spires) and Stratford-upon-Avon is just over 1 hour away.

For those looking for a bargain, Bicester Village offers most sought-after brands at prices reduced by up to 60%

Lower Mill

We are within a short walk to Somerford Keynes, a local village with a Quality Pub and a number of other small villages are within 5 minutes drive, offering local amenities like: Post office, Grocery shop and more Pubs.

The estate is located within the Cotswold Waterpark which provides numerous opportunities to explore either on foot, by bike or watercraft, seasonal cable skiing is also on offer as are sailing, canoeing and windsurfing tuition/hire.

The are several golf courses locally.

An artificial beach on one of the lakes within the Keynes Country Park will keep the children entertained as will the local Butts Farm whilst Magicland in Cirencester is available for very young children if the weather is poor.

Horse riding and bycicle hire is also available locally.

Regular polo matches are played in & around Cirencester.

Cirencester is the nearest town and is only 10 minutes drive, where you will find large Tesco, Waitrose, M&S and a good variety of shops/boutiques, pubs and restaurants.

The town of Cirencester (formerly named Corinium was the second largest town in Britain during Roman times) is home to the Corinium Museum, the Cirencester Abbey (the longest known Saxon church in England) and host to regular market days.

Other popular Cotswold towns are within a 40 mile radius (Tewkesbury, Broadway, Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water, Swindon, Bath, Oxford and Stratford upon Avon)

"Excellent, top quality accommodation of the highest standard in a very peaceful setting."

My friends and I stayed at this property the weekend of November 29th 2013. There were 9 of us and the propery was very spacious for us all with plenty of bedrooms, seating areas and everything we needed for an enjoyable weekend. The house was spotlessly clean and equipped as you would your own home. To top it all the Spa situated on Lower Mill Estate is excellent and very accommodating. All in all a great weekend was had by all and looking forward to our return trip.

"excellent accommodation, beautiful surroundings, 5 star!"

I would definitely recommend Bittern lodge the house and facilities are fantastic. There was everything you need for a luxury weekend everything provided in the house was of a high standard the kitchen appliances, the TV, the beautiful furnishings, open fire. They have finished the house to a very high standard. We didn't realise just how much is provided in the house from an ipod doc, DVD's, tea, coffee, hairdryers, towels. We went with friends but after staying here would love to come back with the children as it is so convenient. The spa was a short walking distance from the house and the facilities were very good welcoming single adults and families. The settings of the house are very beautiful and serene and all in all we found it to be an extremely relaxing weekend and everybody was sad to leave. We will definitely be returning here and hope you enjoy as much as we did!

"Superb"

An immaculate house set up perfectly for a large group with three bedrooms downstairs sharing two large bathrooms and one on the top floor with en-suite. The house has a huge kitchen/dining/living area with a cinema room also. The bedrooms had comfy beds, crisp white linen and lovely decoration. The kitchen was large, well equipped and spotlessly clean. The estate itself is peaceful and friendly - a perfect place for getting away from it all. The organisation of the booking and picking up the key was fantastic and the owner even dropped by to make sure we were happy and offer a few tips for local dining and walks. Would definitely stay again - a really fantastic weekend away and great value for money.

"Excellent value for money!"

Myself and 8 friends have just returned from a 4 day 3 night stay at this property. From the beginning of the booking process I found Kasha to be extremely helpful, and the booking process was quick and easy. Don’t be put off by the Code of Conduct from the property as these are clearly put in place to keep things in order as this is mainly a family orientated estate. Once arriving at the property we used the supplied directions which took us straight to the door, then John arrived to greet us and check us in – very easygoing and trusting. The house is immaculate exactly as sown in the pictures if not better. Very spacious and slept 9 of us perfectly. We decided to cook 2 of the 3 nights we stayed using the local Tesco’s for supplies. It was great with the full fitted and supplied kitchen with all equipment you could possibly need. When staying at the property you also get to use the amazing Art Spa, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, sauna and steam room. You are welcome to use these facilities everyday of your stay free of charge. We were lucky enough not to have to check out until the evening as there were no new guest arriving in the house, however even if you have to check out at 10am they welcome you in the spa until it closes – excellent touch. The only things we would suggest for the future are; maybe supplying a BBQ for the downstairs decking, this would be a great touch. Supplying Fans; because the property is all glass it can get a little hot at times especially in the top bedroom, supplying fans would keep people inside after 10pm during the hot weather. An information book; similar to the info provided by email but in hard copy with a brief overview of the area, things to do, taxi contact numbers, local takeaway numbers, local food delivery, directions to Tesco’s etc. Al in all we were all very happy with our break in this house we all had a great time and were left in the house completely hassle free. We look forward to returning next year. Kasha and John, thanks again. All the best, Ed

"Amazing Cotswolds Break"

Superb property finished to an exceptionally high standard. Excellent facilities, beautiful decks at front and back to enjoy a drink in th sun. Fantastic views. Great on site facilities for those with or without kids alike. Close to Cirencester Market town if you want to escape or the nearby Cotswold Country Park. An absolute gem of a property and location. Would revisit!

"Stunning property, far exceeded our expectations."

Beautiful house, stylish and well laid out. The terraces are a particular feature with views all around. The house is spacious, light and airy with a contemporary design, the pictures on the website don't do it justice! It is top end accommodation. The children loved the lower mill estate; cycling to the park, or the pool in very safe conditions. The beds were very comfy, all the furniture and accessories in the house were top quality, the only thing that I can find that could be improved is that some of the bedrooms were quite light in the mornings as the shutters didn't keep all the light out too well. Overall I would highly recommend this house and estate to anyone... I'd go back tomorrow.

"Perfect"

This house and the estate are great. We spent a week in this house with our 3 small children and have nothing but good things to say. Well stocked kitchen, media room with lots of movies, great wifi, tonnes of board games and heaps of books. Beds and linens were all really clean. Estate has a large play park for the kids, a really nice indoor and outdoor pool, and trampoline. One note - if you are there during off peak season, the estate cafe and shop are closed during the week.

Wonderful house, on a lovely development. The children had a fantastic time. We can't wait to go back! It really is a 5* house.
