The Cotswolds region

April 2008 - Online magazine has compiled a list of the top ten ‘paradise’ locations around the world that seem to have remained untouched by civilisation. The Cotswolds is 2nd Place!

The region is famous for its ancient mellow ‘honey’ coloured limestone villages that blend perfectly into the countryside and its bustling market towns. Many have scarcely altered since they grew up on the prosperity of the medieval wool trade in the 15th and 16th centuries and subsequently forgotten about for more then 300 years. This sequence of events now makes the Cotswolds region one of the most treasured, toured and vacationed in England and the UK for nowhere else will you see such timeless uniqueness and heart warming preservation on such a scale.

Many traditional villages within 15 minutes reach, offering tradition combined with chic

Ideal for antique hunters :visit the charming villages of Bourton on the Water (the Venice of the Cotswolds), Burford, Stow on the Wold, Moreton in Marsh and Chipping Camden (plus many others), the larger spa towns of Bath (a World Heritage Site) and Cheltenham (famed for it’s beautiful Regency architecture) or Oxford (the city of dreaming spires) and Stratford-upon-Avon is just over 1 hour away.

For those looking for a bargain, Bicester Village offers most sought-after brands at prices reduced by up to 60%

Lower Mill

We are within a short walk to Somerford Keynes, a local village with a Quality Pub and a number of other small villages are within 5 minutes drive, offering local amenities like: Post office, Grocery shop and more Pubs.

The estate is located within the Cotswold Waterpark which provides numerous opportunities to explore either on foot, by bike or watercraft, seasonal cable skiing is also on offer as are sailing, canoeing and windsurfing tuition/hire.

The are several golf courses locally.

An artificial beach on one of the lakes within the Keynes Country Park will keep the children entertained as will the local Butts Farm whilst Magicland in Cirencester is available for very young children if the weather is poor.

Horse riding and bycicle hire is also available locally.

Regular polo matches are played in & around Cirencester.

Cirencester is the nearest town and is only 10 minutes drive, where you will find large Tesco, Waitrose, M&S and a good variety of shops/boutiques, pubs and restaurants.

The town of Cirencester (formerly named Corinium was the second largest town in Britain during Roman times) is home to the Corinium Museum, the Cirencester Abbey (the longest known Saxon church in England) and host to regular market days.

Other popular Cotswold towns are within a 40 mile radius (Tewkesbury, Broadway, Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water, Swindon, Bath, Oxford and Stratford upon Avon)

I booked Howells Mere as a surprise for my husband's 30th birthday. There were 20 of us including the older generation, children and teenagers. We rented both HM 27 and 28 for the weekend.

Kasha, Stephanie were wonderful and answered any silly questions we had very promptly via email & even sent us lots of lists of places to visit or restaurants we could eat at.

We all arrived at different times on Friday night & finding parking was not an issue, I guess as quiet time of the year.
Negatives: we had an issue finding the actual house. It's not very well sign posted once you get into lower mill so some more signs would be useful. It was obviously very quiet & dark as all arrived in the evening which probably didn't help. (A few of our crowd were lost for a considerable amount of time!)
Also locks on the bedroom doors would be ideal. Also you have to pay £14/pp for wifi for the weekend which is a bummer as a few of us had work emails etc to sort out on the weekend & would've worked out too expensive but can get 3G/4G out on the decks etc.

The place itself was per the pictures, very clean, spacious & peaceful. Bedding/towels provided. Kitchen was well stocked. All we needed was food!
Wonderful views of the lake from the decks. Best place to go for a relaxing family weekend break. Lots to do depending on the time of year. Abit cold/wet in Nov so couldn't use the tennis courts, trampoline, lake or kids play area but everyone enjoyed the indoor swimming pool & we went for lots of nice walks near the lake.
Will def be coming back again but hopefully in the Summer.

"Luxurious houses in glorious water park setting"

As a large family party of 14, we were delighted with our week long stay to celebrate my fathers 70th birthday. Both houses were superbly equipped, open plan and full of light. The views over the lake were glorious to wake up to, and the local spa/pool provided a relaxing break for all the family. The houses are so well located, with easy access to local walks, pubs, and picturesque Cotwolds Towns and villages. Kasha and her team ensured we had a comfortable and well organised stay. Both houses were clean and welcoming, thank you. We all had a great stay :-)

"Great location for families"

Lovely house and setting for a family weekend away. Plenty of activities if you want them (canoeing, cycling, swimming, gym , tennis etc) , spa and treatments or leisurely walks around the lakes.
We rented two adjacent houses which worked well given shared decking at the rear. The downside being that since the deck is shared between 5 houses, it doesn't feel very private.
The houses were well equipped, clean and tidy. Free wifi would have been an advantage.
The estate / water park is well laid out and maintained and traffic discouraged leading to a safe environment for children to play.

"What an excellent place, I highly recommend it!"

We rented these 2 houses for my sisters 40th birthday celebration with friends and lots of children. The houses were beautiful and equipped to a high quality, in a great location and close to a fantastic spa (massages were wonderful...) We also had Bob cater for us one evening, another great treat

The entire weekend was excellent, high quality, relaxing and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get away from it all!

"Fabulous birthday weekend"

just returned from a fantastic weekend with friends to celebrate a big birthday. We were accomodated in the 2 properties both of which were clean & comfortable, with beautiful bedrooms & bathrooms. Each property had it's own character & gave us the flexibility we needed for a large group while 27 gave us the large table & seating we needed when all together. Many of the group enjoyed the pool & gym, but with the unusually fantastic weather for Feb,we had some great walks in the park & along the Thames Path. (didn't see any beavers but were interested to see the evidence of their existence) There is still some building going on on the other side of the lake but the builders didn't work over the weekend so didn't disturb us & it looks like those buildings should be complete soon. All in all the properties were perfect for us & Kasha & John made it very easy.
