The Cotswolds region
April 2008 - Online magazine AskMen.com has compiled a list of the top ten 'paradise' locations around the world that seem to have remained untouched by civilisation. The Cotswolds is 2nd Place!
The region is famous for its ancient mellow 'honey' coloured limestone villages that blend perfectly into the countryside and its bustling market towns. Many have scarcely altered since they grew up on the prosperity of the medieval wool trade in the 15th and 16th centuries and subsequently forgotten about for more then 300 years. This sequence of events now makes the Cotswolds region one of the most treasured, toured and vacationed in England and the UK for nowhere else will you see such timeless uniqueness and heart warming preservation on such a scale.
Many traditional villages within 15 minutes reach, offering tradition combined with chic
Ideal for antique hunters :visit the charming villages of Bourton on the Water (the Venice of the Cotswolds), Burford, Stow on the Wold, Moreton in Marsh and Chipping Camden (plus many others), the larger spa towns of Bath (a World Heritage Site) and Cheltenham (famed for it's beautiful Regency
architecture) or Oxford (the city of dreaming spires) and Stratford-upon-Avon is just over 1 hour away.
We are within a short walk to Somerford Keynes, a local village with a Quality Pub and a number of other small villages are within 5 minutes drive, offering local amenities like: Post office, Grocery shop and more Pubs.
The estate is located within the Cotswold Waterpark which provides numerous opportunities to explore either on foot, by bike or watercraft, seasonal cable skiing is also on offer as are sailing, canoeing and windsurfing tuition/hire.
The are several golf courses locally.
An artificial beach on one of the lakes within the Keynes Country Park will keep the children entertained as will the local Butts Farm whilst Magicland in Cirencester is available for very young children if the weather is poor.
Horse riding and bycicle hire is also available locally.
Regular polo matches are played in & around Cirencester.
Cirencester is the nearest town and is only 10 minutes drive, where you will find large Tesco, Waitrose, M&S and a good variety of shops/boutiques, pubs and restaurants.
The town of Cirencester (formerly named Corinium was the second largest town in Britain during Roman times) is home to the Corinium Museum, the Cirencester Abbey (the longest known Saxon church in England) and host to regular market days.
Other popular Cotswold towns are within a 40 mile radius (Tewkesbury, Broadway, Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water, Swindon, Bath, Oxford and Stratford upon Avon)

"Great venue for family get-together"
We had a long weekend here with adult family members, and were very pleased with the house and the facilities of the Estate. The upstairs lounge/diner with a glass wall facing the lake is spectacular, with open-plan large kitchen. The lake is large enough to not be looking straight into another property across the lake, which is an issue with some of the developments in this area. Kitchen generally well equipped, but fridge was minimal for 8 adults. Three downstairs bedrooms good size, but the upstairs room was very small for two adults, not much room for clothing etc. Would suit children.
Spa was great, pools good size and not too chlorine-y. Massages were popular with our group. Two tennis courts (tarmac), easy to book it but probably because it was low-season.
Internet was available but quite expensive, from memory £5-7 for 1 day, cheaper if longer.

"Nice house wonderful location"
Arrived at property to find it met all our expectations. We were a large group 6 adults, 3 children and 2 infants. The house was well laid out with the Lounge/Dining room being on the first floor giving a superb view across the lake. We were particularly lucky with the weather and my wife and I used to get up around 6.30 before the rest of the household and sit on the balcony with a cup of coffee watching the wildlife in the vicinity with Ducks and Rabbits right outside the back door.
Lower Mill estate has an old world charm but with modern houses that seem to fit in to landscape perfectly. The on site Spa facilities was perfect for the children and they loved it.
The cost of the rental is on the high side even in school holidays but you would be hard pressed to find a better location
We would definitely consider returning some time in the future

"Fabulous House with Superb Facilities"
We stayed in Waterhaze as an extended family for a long weekend. The house was of a very high standard, beautifully furnished, clean, well equipped and the little extras such as children's toys and binoculars helped keep the little ones entertained. The view of the lake was stunning and the upside down living made the most of this. The facilities at Lower Mill were great and we spent time in the stunning Spa and made the most of the outdoor swimming pool and eco pool as the weather was perfect. The advice from Cotswolds Spa Holidays regarding shopping, places to eat and places of interest were invaluable.
I would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone looking for a luxury, relaxing break in a beautiful location.

"Super weekend away!"
Booked as a weekend gathering for a few couples and our small children. The house worked extremely well and living areas felt spacious even when we were all together. The house is extremely well equipped and has beautiful views over the lakes. A super weekend away enjoyed by all!!
