The Heart of England / Peak District / Lincolnshire region
Kenwick Woods is located on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, designated an area of outstanding Natural Beauty. Here you can escape the hectic everyday life amidst the charm of the Lincolnshire Wolds, a landscape of rolling hills and greenery that inspired one of England's greatest poets, Alfred Lord Tennyson. Hidden in and around this gorgeous countryside, you will discover idyllic villages, bustling market towns and inspirational history. Delicious local food and drink is always on the menu in the Wolds. Whether it is organic bakers harnessing nature's power from picturesque windmills, family butchers offering locally-reared meat or pubs serving up fresh local produce...your taste buds are in for a treat. Drive to the picturesque city of Lincoln and visit the Cathedral and Castle. Lincoln has something for everyone, with great shopping facilities, fantastic public art, many cultural events, and of course the historic monuments which have made Lincoln the city it is today. Try to visit each of the city's unique quarters so you can experience Lincoln as a whole and take in all that there is to offer. The Lincolshire Coast is home to some of the finest seaside resorts in the UK. The most famous resort must be Skegness, one of the UK's top seaside destinations and famous for the Jolly Fisherman. Chapel St. Leonards is a mixture of the traditional and the modern whilst Ingoldmells is home to the famous Fantasy Island Millennium Roller Coaster and Butlins. Mablethorpe is an excellent resort with lots of fun for all the family and Sutton on Sea and Trusthorpe have a quality and charm all of their own.
Louth / Kenwick Woods area
The picturesque Georgian market town of Louth is a short drive from the Lodge. Known as the capital of the Wolds, it is renowned for its traditional food shops. The town sits on the Greenwich meridian line which is marked by a plaque in Eastgate. It has a museum, cinema and theatre and many small independently owned shops which still line the main streets. There is a thriving weekly market and a monthly farmer's market together with a wide choice of pubs, bars, restaurants and traditional tearooms. Visit the five sailed windmill at Alford, where flour is still produced in the traditional way or travel on the Lincolnshire Wolds steam railway at Ludborough. Take a trip to Market Rasen's National Hunt Course or Cadwell Park motor racing circuit which is also close by. There is an information pack inside the cabin which provides lots of useful information on where to go, places to visit and which walks to choose. Alternatively visit www.visitlincolnshire.com for further information and ideas for great days out.
