The Lincoln Xmas Markets are held in Lincoln Castle from midday Thu 5th Dec 2013 to 7pm Sun 8th Dec 2013. Changes to previous years are announced. To view the latest info go to:-
William the Conqueror built Lincoln Castle, in 1068, on a strategic site that had once been used by the Romans. 166 families who were living on the site had their houses demolished and were forced to provide labour for the construction of the castle. The castle hosts an exciting events programme and offers free guided tours. Experience the magnificent views of the cathedral, the City of Lincoln and the surrounding countryside from the extensive wall walks during your visit to the castle. Lincoln Castle also holds one of only two original copies of the Magna Carta.
Lincoln Cathedral was for almost 300 years the tallest building in the world. Yet, in spite of its size, it is filled with intricate detail. There is something for everyone. Children love seeking out the funny carvings. Not just the Imp, but the cat and mouse and so many other little details that brightened the masons' days. John Ruskin famously said, 'I have always held and proposed against all comers to maintain that the Cathedral of Lincoln is out and out the most precious piece of architecture in the British Isles'
The BBMF (Battle of Britain Memorial Flight) Visitor Centre.
A unique partnership between the Royal Air Force and Lincolnshire County Council provides the public with a gateway to the home of the BBMF at RAF Coningsby, Lincolnshire. Since opening its doors in 1986, the BBMF Visitor Centre has welcomed over 300,000 people, offering them the opportunity to see the Flight's historic aircraft at close quarters and to observe the BBMF technicians working to maintain them in airworthy condition. Check this site for regular display programmes.
RAF Donna Nook Seal Sanctuary.
Nr North Somercotes' and only 10 Miles from the lodges. The Seals at Donna Nook are VERY VERY close to the shore line and can be photographed quite easily with a simple camera. The seals attract 40,000 visitors to the Lincolnshire coast from end October to end of December every year – Donna Nook National Nature Reserve (NNR) is probably the best place within the U.K. for photographing grey seals. Each year, as autumn rolls into winter, hundreds of grey seals begin hauling themselves out onto Donna Nooks' sandbanks to give birth to their pups. Here the most important activities of the grey seal calendar are played out, giving photographers unprecedented opportunities to capture dramatic pictures of this spectacular period.
