The Algarve / Central Algarve region
The Algarve has become one of the top holiday destinations throughout Europe. It benefits from a ‘micro-climate’ which means it has a fantastically agreeable climate throughout the year. This means that not only will you be able to take advantage of long, hot summers but it is highly likely that you will be able to have a warm winter break playing golf or tennis in the sunshine between December and March.
Wherever you go within the region you are greeted by a beautiful bright shining sun, golden sands, clear blue skies, crystal blue waters and lush vegetation. There is truly something for everyone with the magnificent coastlines combined with the substantial heritage and history housed within the Algarve. There are places that are well worth a visit including Albufeira which has become the tourist capital of the region.
To experience some authentic Portuguese culture one of the many markets are definitely worth a visit. Here you will be encompassed by the atmosphere as you scurry about looking for a bargain or just absorbing the surroundings as the locals haggle over the prices. There is one in Loule Every Saturday and Quarteira has one every Wednesday.
During your holiday be sure to visit one of the many authentic restaurants as this will truly allow you to experience the heritage and roots of the region. In Portugal you are sure to be experiencing healthy cuisine of the highest quality prepared with fresh, local produce.
Loule / Goldra area
Loule is the largest district within the Algarve. It is a rural and active market town producing many souvenir products made out of copper, leather, cane and wood. The town consists of 20,000 residents and due to the demands of tourism it has blossomed in size. The town’s landmark is the market hall and the weekly fair (on a Saturday) attracts people from all along the Algarve hoping to experience some culture. An important event is the annual Carnival held in February that is considered to be one of the best in Portugal. In the town there is a Museum that is devoted to the local industry of dried fruits and it is interesting to see how these products are prepared for the public.
The town has been built around the remains of a castle that dates back to the 12th Century. Within the dilapidated walls of castle is a museum with an explanation of the historical grandeur of the castle. To the west of the town is a hilltop Church that is built on the site of a 16th Century chapel. This is the destination of an annual religious procession that requires some physical effort on the part of the bearers of the church's religious shrines.
There are many activities within the town including a leisure park, golf, health spas, tennis facilities, beautiful beaches and much much more.
