About this location
The Algarve region
The Algarve has long been a favourite destination for the holidaymaker from the UK and many other countries throughout Europe and this trend continues to this day. This friendly nation appreciates how valuable the tourist industry is for the economy and growth of Portugal. The reason why we are so attracted to this beautiful part of the World is of course the weather. Average temperatures in the Winter are around 15 to 20 degrees and 21 to 32 in the Summer. The Algarve climate enjoys the most year-round sunshine anywhere in Europe, making the Algarve resorts ideal for year round holidays. The abundance of stunning beaches, beautiful golf courses and tourist attractions are well documented. The various regions cater very well for the tourist who wishes to explore this lovely country or to simply just relax and enjoy the weather.
Alcantarilha is located only 2km from Armacao de Pera, and very near to the historic city of Silves. Alcantarilha is famous for its cobbled streets and Old Bone Church. Nestled amongst orange and fig groves there are many interesting buildings to visit. Our Lady 'da conceicao' is famous for its rare 'capela dos ossos' (chapel of bones) which is well worth a visit. Among the cobbled streets there are many restaurants which cater for all tastes. A post office, small shops, cafes and bars are also nearby. The Algarve shopping complex in Guia is a short drive, the complex has 100 shops, food malls, a 6 screen cinema and a bowling alley. The complex is open from 9am - 12 midnight. Another worthwhile visit is to the historic city of Silves, steep cobbled streets, a wonderful old castle, the river and an assortment of shops and restaurants.
Additional places that are worth a visit!: Portimao and Albufeira are the largest towns in the area. Portimao is the Algarve's second largest town, but it has the largest port and one of the most famous beaches on the Algarve at Praia da Rocha with miles of boulevards a stunning marina, a nice riverside and a thriving nightlife. Albufeira is also well know for its thriving nightlife and all night entertainment, along the 'strip' you will find many bars, restaurants and night clubs. With plenty of shops and lovely beaches Albufeira is a tourist hotspot during the season, yet never seems to be overcrowded. Carvoeiro has a great atmosphere with Mediterranean flair, bars and restaurants galore and take in the ambience of this delightful town. Close to the villa you have the longest sandy beach on the Algarve at Armacao de Pera (2km away), you have the water park of Aqualand and one of the main tourist attractions in the region which is 'Zoo Marine'. Other major resorts such as Vale do Lobo and Vilamoura are only 20 mins away!!
