The Farmhouse and its stable are set in their own grounds of 5 acres (2 hectares) with landscaped gardens, full size tennis court and large private pool (12m x 6m), which is set in the original kitchen garden. Woodland paths wind through the gardens and there are plenty of shaded areas to linger a while and relax with a book. The BBQ is built into the original stone terrace. The delightful veranda, with patio furniture, is reminiscent of the Portuguese Colonial style and is perfect for a glass of chilled wine whilst enjoying the spectacular sun sets. Steps lead up to the roof terrace for magnificent panoramic views of the surrounding hills. There are sunbeds and umbrellas around the pool. For the tennis enthusiasts, there is a full size fenced court which is behind the parking area.There is some road noise from the newly built motorway with its excellent links across the region and the house is priced accordingly but is a great base for golfers or guests who want to explore the attractions of the area and therefore represents excellent value.

Quinta Mateus is a traditional, comfortably furnished, Portuguese farmhouse in the Algarvian style, which has been renovated to retain its original features. With three bedrooms in the main house and a further bedroom in the converted stable block, which offers flexible accommodation? The farmhouse living room has terracotta flooring and overstuffed sofas with a wood burning stove set into the original chimney breast. The wooden beamed ceilings continue through into the dining room with its carved refectory table with seating for 6. Large double doors lead through to the terrace. The Master Bedroom (with air conditioning) has terracotta tiled floor, antique chest of drawers and en-suite bathroom. Bedrooms 2 & 3 are traditionally furnished and share the nicely tiled house bathroom. There is a separate utility room. The separate converted stable block has its own facilities including cosy living room with terracotta tiled floor and comfy sofa, double bedroom with en-suite and a kitchenette with wooden table and seating for 4.

Friday changeover - although this can be flexible in the quieter months. Included is a welcome pack. 20% deposit is taken at time of booking with the balance paid 6 weeks before arrival.
Included in the cost is a welcome pack of local produce. Beds are made up for arrival and house and pool towels are provided. The housekeeper comes in mid-week.
The Algarve region
The Algarve's attraction to golfers is renowned and it home to some of Europe's most stunning beaches and wildlife sanctuaries. It offers more sunshine hours than most countries in Europe - even in mid-winter you will be guaranteed a temperate climate.
For such a small area the landscape varies dramatically - from the rugged cliffs at Cape St Vincent from where the first voyagers of discovery departed into the uncharted waters of the Atlantic, to the sleepy fishing villages close to the Spanish border.
Whatever you are looking for, whether a beach holiday, water-sports or golf, the Algarve will not disappoint.
Quinta Mateus nestles in a lush, herb covered valley between the coast and mountains near to the town of Loule in the Central Algarve.
This is the secret heart of the Algarve, where wild almond, fig and pomegranate trees grow around the villages, whose simple charms and whitewashed houses give the feel of having stepped back in time. You can still see traditional crafts being practiced; handmade tiles and bricks, and baskets woven with palm leaves.
The local pottery is very good value. The pretty town of Loule with its Medieval castle and historic centre, much of which has retained its original charm is only a mile away. There is a covered market which spills onto the surrounding streets every Saturday which sells fish, seafood, fruit and vegetables. There are 2 excellent supermarkets in Loule, together banks, restaurants and bars etc.
The nearest beaches are about 15 minutes drive away where there is plenty of parking and beach side restaurants. Most beaches include watersports and other outdoor activities. There are golf courses at Quinta do logo and Val do Lobo also around15 minutes drive.
