The Algarve region
The Algarve (Portuguese pronunciation: [a?ˈga?v(?)], from Arabic: ??????, trans. Al-Gharb, meaning "The West") is the southernmost region of mainland Portugal. It has an area of 5,412 square kilometres (2,090 sq mi) with approximately 450,484 permanent inhabitants, and incorporates 16 municipalities. The region coincides with the Faro District, and has as its administrative centre the city of Faro, where both the region's international airport at Faro (FAO) and public university (the University of the Algarve) are located. Tourism and related activities are extensive and make up the bulk of the Algarve's summer economy. Fish, seafood and fruit production, which includes oranges, carob beans, figs and almonds, are other important activities in the region. The Algarve is the most popular tourist destination in Portugal, and one of the most popular in Europe. Its population triples in the peak holiday season thanks to a high influx of visitors, and receives an average of 7 million foreign tourists each year. In total, including national visitors, almost 10 million people visit the Algarve every year.
Loulé, the racy, cosmopolitan lifestyle of the world's leading tourist centres. A long ribbon of fine, golden sand tucked between the blue of the sea and the bold ochre of the cliffs. The splendour of tiles in a chapel that is itself a work of art.
The changing greens of the orchards and the woods of the hills. An endless variety of decorated chimneys, carefully wrought in a filigree of whitewashed stone and art.
Wide open spaces where it is possible to rediscover the meaning of solitude and listen to the silence of nature. With all this and more, Loulé municipality is a place of sunshine and colour, fun and excitement.

"A perfect retreat"
This is an absolutely beautiful, traditional farmhouse set in its own grounds with citrus and olive trees. We have stayed here before and the house/cottage is always presented to an extremely high standard. It is literally home from home. There is plenty to do if you are looking for an action packed holiday, but there are options for those wanting something more relaxing around the pool. Local restaurants are superb and we can't recommend Quinta Amendoeira highly enough. You won't be disappointed!

"An idyllic rustic retreat"
We've stayed here several times as it absolutely beautiful. The house has everything to offer for both adults and children and is in excellent condition. The pool is lovely and there are a variety of seating areas to have a drink or dinner. There is a very good supermarket nearby, which has a great variety of products. There are plenty of excellent restaurants/bars within a 30 minute drive, which are all very child friendly. There are a variety of beaches nearby. There is a very organised folder, with details of restaurants, beaches, activities, shopping and sightseeing. I strongly recommend this property.
