The Algarve / Central Algarve region

The Algarve is probably best known for its sunshine and beaches. This part of the Algarve offers some of the finest beaches in Europe and as you will notice when you fly-in, the beaches in the Algarve stretch for miles. The coast has many activities for you to enjoy such as water sports, surfing, sailing, boat trips, fishing trips, dolfin safaris, or just having a fun day at the beach. There are many Marinas to stroll around such as Vilamoura, Albufeira,Faro, Portimão, or Tavira to name just a few.
One of the Algarve's treasures is The National Park of Ria Formosa, which covers over 50km of coastline from Tavira in the east to Ancao. The park is made up of a narrow strip of land separated from the sea by vast sand dune an estuarys, behind which lies a labyrinth of lagoons and small sand islands, mud flats, marshes and canals. It is one of the largest barrier reef lagoons in Europe with pristine beaches. The park holds special appeal for bird watchers, who flock to see a wide range of breeds.
The Algarve has some of the best golf courses in Europe, namely Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo and Vilamoura. The Algarve has just been voted as having the best value for money golf destination in Europe, ahead of Turkey and Spain by readers of Today's Golf magazine. With its enormous choice of golf courses, and with 300 days of sunshine a year it is the ideal place to enjoy golf all year round.
If it is nightlife you are after, if you head down to coastal resorts such as Albufeira or Vilamoura, then it is hard to beat. From mellow evenings to all night parties there is something for everyone. Whether you're looking for family friendly bars or wild stag weekends, chances are you'll find it in the Algarve. The huge range of bars and clubs across the Algarve should satisfy all tastes. From elegant lounge bars and jet set beach clubs, music bars and all-night clubs it’s almost impossible not to have a good time!
For fun days out with the family in the Algarve there is a choice of places to visit. Great fun can be had at the several water parks, or try the go karting, or visit Zoo Marine where you can swim with dolphins.
The Algarve - a landscape of rolling hills and valleys, dotted with olive, carob, almond, fig, and orange trees - a vast coastline overlooking the endless waters of the Atlantic. There is more to just enjoying the sunshine and if you travel inland you will find historical towns and whitewashed villages which are perfect for exploring. For those visitors looking for more than sun bathing the Algarve has much more to offer:
-Historical monuments going back to the roots of Roman and Moorish culture in Portugal.
-Testimonies of the glorious past when Portugal's bold sailors started from there to discover far continents.
-Breathtaking cliffs at the coast of the Atlantic Ocean with hidden creeks.
-Peaceful countryside in the mountains still almost untouched by tourists.
And there is much more to be discovered.
Every month the Algarve offers a large variety of cultural, sports and commercial events. In summer you will find there are music festivals, concerts, fairs, and many towns have evenings with traditional folk music and dancing. There are also major sporting tournaments held annually in the Algarve such as the ATP Grand Champions tennis tournament and the The Portugal Masters, a European Tour men's professional golf tournament.
If you enjoy seafood, then you will be spoilt for choice in the Algarve. The Algarve has taken full advantage of its coastal location and over time moulded its cuisine to incorporate the vast array of seafood found in the waters off its shores. Indeed Portugal as a whole is a great fish-eating nation with an estimated 40% of the population’s protein intake coming from our watery friends. Balmy summer evenings, a cool glass of sparkling “Vinho Verde” in your hand, and a gentle sea breeze laden with the enticing odours of freshly caught fish being grilled on street-side barbecues. A truly unforgettable experience that brings visitors back to the Algarve time after time.
With our villa central to all this it is easy to experience all the Algarve has to offer within a short drive away.
The Loule / Loule Hills area
The villa is located in the hills just outside of Loule. A beautiful rural setting with native Almond, Fig, and Carob trees in abundance. Wildlife is right on your doorstep, and peace and tranquility is found. Yet the coast is not far away and the superb coastal views of the Atlantic Ocean can be enjoyed from this south facing villa.
The nearby town of Loulé has much to offer, and if you want to experience traditional Portugal rather than the coastal tourist resorts then this villa is ideally located for you. The historical town of Loulé has many wonderful small traditional shops where you can buy local pottery, leather and copper handicrafts. Not to be missed is the fantastic fish/meat market, open 6 days/week and the huge gypsy market every Saturday attracting people for miles around. It also offers all the modern conveniences of supermarkets and banks etc. In addition, it caters for all your culinary needs with plenty of cafés and traditional restaurants that offer great value for money and excellent food. In February, there is a 3 day Carnival in Loulé, with much atmosphere, colour, music and dancing. In the summer there are often 'Festas' (festivals) in the evenings where you can enjoy music or dancing. Loulé is a pleasant town for families to stroll around on a warm summer evening while enjoying the relaxed atmosphere and a drink in one of the many street cafés.
