The County Galway / County Clare / County Galway region
Galway, the largest county in the province of Connacht, lies in the centre of the western seaboard of Ireland. It covers nearly 6,000 sq. kms, (with over 2000km of highly indented coastline) and is divided by Lough Corrib, Ireland's second largest lake. It has two distinct landscapes - the vast mountainy land of Connemara to the west of Lough Corrib and the rich farming plains of Galway East. The main towns in County Galway are Athenry, Ballinalsoe, Clifden, Gort, Loughrea, Moycullen, Oranmore, Oughterard, Portumna, and Tuam.
Galway County is unique in having Ireland's largest Gaeltacht (Irish speaking) region. There are four main inhabited Islands off the coast of Galway including the world renowed Irish speaking Aran Islands and Inisboffin.
The Loughrea / Coorheen area
The lodge is a short walk to Lough Rea, renowned for it's trout fishing and is about 1 1/2 miles from the town of Loughrea for nearest shops and pubs and fine choice of restaurants. It is an ideal location for touring Connemara, Tipperary, Clare and the Burren. It is about 22 miles from Galway City, 14 miles from the fishing port of Kinvara and 20 miles to Lough Derg.
