We are Dog Friendly offering Gite accommodation for people wishing to holiday in France with their dogs or just come on their own for a relaxing break. Dogs are welcome throughout the gite and are allowed to stay inside even if their human friends want to go out by themselves to explore the area or if the weather is perhaps too hot for them to stay in the car. The gite is a dog friendly homes from home, and arrangements can be made with your hosts Sue and John Bociek, to have your pet looked after including meals and exercise – taking the stress out of holidaying with your dog.

The gite has 110 square metres of living accommodation plus a covered veranda of 25 square metres allowing for extended outdoor living. There are two large double bedrooms, the first on the ground floor has an en-suite bathroom that also includes your washing machine, the second upstairs has views over the garden and fields. The adjacent main bathroom has an enclosed shower suitable for pet baths.

The spacious kitchen is light and airy and leads through French doors out to the covered veranda. There is a five-burner gas cooker with large oven and rotisserie , microwave, dishwasher, family fridge-freezer, cd-radio and quality crockery, cooking utensils and cutlery for up to six people. A range of cleaning materials is supplied.

Upstairs the large sitting room is equipped with a 36”tv, satellite and terrestrial boxes, with a dvd player. There is a range of dvds and books to suit all ages in both English and French. The large corner sofa converts easily to a comfortable double bed to give an extra two persons accommodation.

Included in the gite are special little touches that we hope improve its ambiance and make your stay here more pleasurable.

There is a large garden area in excess of 2,000 square metres that is exclusively for your use other than sharing it with our ducks and chickens who roam free. There are outdoor toys and games provided.

The large pond for the ducks is not enclosed so is not suitable for unsupervised young children.

About this location

The Poitou-Charentes region

Loudun is in an ideal base for visiting the Loire Valley and the local attractions of La Vienne region.

Along the Loire valley there are the famous chateaux; the vineyards of Chinon and Saumur have some of the finest wines in France and there are numerous local wine producers both small and large who welcome visitors.

The zoo at Doué Le Fontaine is very unusual, set in the shelter of an old quarry giving the zoo animals shade and quiet. It is committed to helping species that are endangered in their own environment.

The zoo has the largest aviary in Europe. It is also interesting to learn how the quarry developed as the local tuffeau stone was extracted.

Futuroscope is about 40 minutes away by car and is a huge attraction within the Vienne. Visitors travel from all over Europe to visit this futuristic theme park. The parc was founded by M. Rene Monory (minister for education at the time), a neighbour of ours who sadly passed away in 2009.

Vallée des Singes is further, about 90 minutes drive, but it is worth spending a whole day there. It is a conservation centre for endangered primates. The monkeys live free on islands in family groups alongside different species they could encounter in the wild but not compete with, often living at different levels within the forest canopy.

The L'Abbaye Fontevraud is just down the road. It is famous as the last resting place of King Richard the Lion Heart and Eleanor of Aquitaine. Founded by Robert l'Arbrissel it unusually included a nunnery and monastery together. After the revolution it became a prison but is now being beautifully restored. L'Abbaye has been designated the ambassador site for the Loire Valley World Heritage by UNESCO. It is open all year except some public holidays and frequently hosts attractions, concerts and animations.
