Cross Cottage - Lanhydrock
About the home
Situated on the edge of Lanhydrock Estate, the National Trust's finest house in Cornwall, Cross Cottage provides an ideal base for exploring the extensive network of unspoilt riverside and woodland walks around Respryn and the River Fowey.
Recently restored and extended to a very high standard, the cottage was built in 1850 in the picturesque 'gothic revival' style and incorporates a fine example of medieval Celtic cross within its front walled garden.
The stunning countryside in the cottage's immediate surroundings will keep you enthralled for the whole of your week. Should you wish to travel further afield Bodmin Parkway mainline railway station can be located at the other end of a pleasant walk through the National Trust 'Station Walk'. The A30 is a short drive away, though unseen and unheard from the cottage, offering quick access to the North Cornish Coast. On the south coast, the idyllic fishing ports of Charlestown, Fowey, Polperro and Looe are close by.

The West Country / Cornwall region
This south west county enjoys a milder climate than much of England, and consequently Cornwall has long been a popular all year round self catering holiday getaway. The North Cornwall area provides the best surfing in England, with towns like Newquay, Perranporth, Polzeath, St Ives and Bude filling with enthusiasts every year. There are scenic towns such as Penzance to explore and delicious Cornish pasties to sample. Cornwall also has Celtic links and the legend of King Arthur which can be explored at Tintagle’s castle. If you fancy something a little more refined, the fishing port of Padstow offers the famous seafood restaurant run by chef Rick Stein. There is excellent walking on Bodmin Moor, domain of the legendary beast, and the coastline is wild and beautiful.
The Lostwithiel area
Cross Cottage is set on the edge of the National Trusts Lanydrock Estate on the River Fowey.
Central to Cornwall and within easy reach of Cornwall’s Attractions and beaches, the respryn valley provides a sheltered and woodland retreat away from the busy towns and bustling fishing village.

Cross Cottage is situated in perfect surroundings with a cute little balcony offering stunning views for miles. The accommodation itself is incredible - spacious, clean and peaceful. There's lots to do with Bodmin, Padstow and Fowey close by (a car is preferable), and after a long day exploring, the home cinema and walk-in shower were absolute heaven. The conservatory is also perfect for morning coffee, particularly when the sun is shining. If you're feeling active, the Camel Trail is great for cycling and walking and there are plenty of nice restaurants to choose from nearby. The owner could not have been more accommodating and made the whole process quick and easy for us. This was a perfect escape for us and we plan to return later this year. Perfect! |

We absolutely loved Cross Cottage. It felt so homely and had everything you could wish for. As previous review said it's lovely and light and airy in the day then lovely and warm and cosy in the evenings. Great location - felt like we were in the middle of nowhere but actually nearest town with big supermarket only 10 mins drive away. Lovely walks directly from the house. Perfect location to explore the whole of Cornwall. The icing on the cake was the cinema screen, vast dvd collection and top quality sound system to keep us entertained in the evenings after a day's sightseeing. |

What a find, we were so pleased with this holiday cottage - situated ideally for travelling around Cornwall - beautiful walks. Our dog certainly enjoyed it. The facilities at the cottage were brilliant, and an added bonus of the home cinema system, which was a bonus on our unfortuate wet evenings. Will certainly be going back!! |
