Beaches under the sun In Tenerife, tourism is synonymous with bright sunshine and swimming in the sea. With over 350 kilometres of coastline,a wide variety of beaches with golden or volcanic sand, family-friendly beaches,
Hidden beaches, nudist beaches ……that’s without including the unique natural seawater pools of Tenerife.
The Los Cristianos / Chayofa area
A few words
Magic sunsets, calm beaches, golden sand and a ever present sunshine are the main features of Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje, a charming destination loved by every tourist visiting the Canary Islands.
Description
Los Cristianos is a town almost linked to Costa Adeje by large extensions of sand and sea. Here we can find the harbour from where the ships depart to La Gomera, El Hierro and la Palma and also where still exists an intensive fishing activity. In addition, it is also possible to book a wide range of trips, both four tours or fishing, on different kind of boats from where marvellous views can be enjoyed. The beach is surrounded by many bars and restaurants specialised in fish. The main beaches are Las Vistas, Playa del Duque, Fañabé, Torviscas, San Eugenio y Del Bobo.
Highlights
Sacred Art Museum of the Adeje Village
The museum is quite interesting due to the valuable religious objects collection hoards inside it. The art pieces belong to the period comprised between the 14th and the 19th century that together with the Gobelin tapestry collection constitutes a worthwhile museum to visit.
Whales watching
It is possible to see the whales during the numerous tours that depart from the harbour. Both children and adults can enjoy this marvellous sea spectacle to which they take as many pictures as possible.
National Park of el Teide
The Teide is just in the heart of the island. This marvellous natural park is shaped by true geological monuments such us splendid volcanic cones and domes, lava and caves, all forming an outstanding landscape full of colours and shapes. In 1954 was declared National Park, it has 18,990 hectares full of flora and fauna unique in the Canary Islands.
Casa Fuerte
This fortress belonged to Don Pedro Ponte who wanted some protection against the French and English pirates, so he asked license to build on his lands the currently known as Casa Fuerte. The approval was given in 1555 by princess Dona Juana through his father emperor Charles I. Since that moment, and along 300 years, the building has been a political, social an economical centre of Adeje. It is a deluxe construction, that unfortunately suffered a fire in 1902 recovering the archive, furniture and art pieces. What we can visit nowadays are the ruins of a building that in the past had grandeur and magnificence.
El Granero Museum
Built betwen 1698 and 1713, it shows a large exhibitons hall and a handicraft workshop.
Historical Archive of Adeje
It is a quite interesting place to get to know the history of this area of Tenerife. Here we can find complete information about the marquisate of Adeje, the countship of La Gomera, the manor of El Hierro or the entailed regions of Ampudia y Cea from the 16th to the 19th century.
