The Tenerife region

The attractions of Tenerife include the warm, all year round climate and the relatively short flight times from the UK and the rest of Europe. Tenerife has some fantastic facilities for holidaymakers including the beaches, the golf courses, the fishing villages, the traditional villages, the varied shopping centres and the seafront walks.
The scenery varies from desert landscapes to pine forests, lush canyons and high altitude peaks.
Tenerife is becoming increasingly popular for rock climbing and for walking holidays, and if you would like tailor-made guided walks these can be arranged locally. Please ask for more information.
Examples of places to visit throughout the island include Mount Teide (highest peak in Spain), Masca (lovely mountain village), Santa Cruz (cosmopolitan city and island capital), La Orotava (charming town famed for its ornate balconies), Piramides de Guimar, Los Gigantes famous cliffs, Island Tours, interesting local villages and towns, Loro Parque (parrots, dolphin, whale and sea lion shows).
The Los Cristianos / Chayofa area
Chayofa has a lovely residential feel with its many flowers and palm trees and has good bus and taxi services. It also has 4 bars/restaurants ranging in price and style.
Within 5- 10 minutes drive there are the Canarian villages of La Camella, Valle de San Lorenzo, Cabo Blanco, Buzanada (all with lots of local shops and fabulous restaurants). Los Cristianos has a beautiful harbour where you can take a ferry to La Gomera or a boat trip to see the whales and dolphins. A 5km seafront walkway with beaches, water sport opportunities, restaurants and shopping areas leads all the way from Los Cristianos, to Playa de Las Americas, Costa Adeje and the lovely fishing village of La Caleta. There is a huge choice of eating out opportunities as well as entertainment and cabaret bars. A taxi journey from Los Cristianos or Playa De Las Americas nightlife costs around 8 Euros. There are also many superb beaches, both natural and man-made.
Within 15 minutes there are 5 golf courses, ranging from the 9 hole par 27 at Guaza to Golf del Sur which has hosted several PGA tour events. There are also several fishing villages (Las Galletas, Los Abrigos, La Caleta) and El Medano beach is a hot spot for wind/kite surfers.
There are plenty of supermarkets and banks in both the local villages and the tourist resorts. You will be spoiled for choice of restaurants in the surrounding area (local, International and 'British') suiting all tastes and budgets. For example, the San Telmo area of Los Cristianos has a lovely mixture of small International restaurants and tapas bars, while the upmarket Safari/Americas Plaza in Playa de Las Americas has a cosmopolitan variety. However, restaurants in the local villages offer fantastic local food and excellent value for money. There are many shopping centres and local markets, including Los Cristianos, Sunday 10am -2pm.
The attractions available locally are numerous and include the Jungle park (zoo with lions, tigers, birds of prey), Animal farm, Camel park, Monkey park, Siam Park (largest, most amazing water park in Europe with world record rides and massive wave pool) and Aqualand (suitable for smaller children). There are spas, Medieval night, Sound of the Musicals or the Carmen Mota musical. You may also wish to take part in motocross, go karting, quad biking, raft biking, horse riding, walking, hiking, climbing or paragliding. Alternatively go whale watching, parascending, scuba diving, sport fishing, power boating, bob diving or go on jet bikes, submarine safari, catamaran or a glass-bottom boat.

From the UK, there are flights to the south airport (TFS) from most airports via budget airlines such as Ryanair, Jet 2, Easyjet, Monarch, Thomson and Thomas Cook. Everything was as advertised on the internet and more. The booking process and payment were fast and easy, both Helen (the owner) and Kath (representative on the island) were very nice and helpful, answered all the questions that we had. Kath and Roger live just across the street and are there to help whenever you need. The terasses around the house are gorgeous, it was amazing to seat on the terasse and enjoy a breakfast in the morning sun or dinner with the beautiful sunset. Since the house is in the quite village and street, it's a perfect place to relax and enjoy after exploring the island all day.The pool is also very nice and clean. It was pretty much empty when we were there. We loved the house, plenty of room and privacy for two couples. Especially loved the little details in and around the house (plants, paintings, vases...) that made it feel like home. The kitchen has EVERYTHING you need for cooking (hand mixer, grater, pans and pots, plenty of plates, microwave... not just 4 plates and 1 pan, as it often happens when you rent a place). Parking for the car is just outside the house. There are two books with info about the whole island, prepared by the owners and they are amazing - all you need to know, restaurant descriptions and reviews, everything! There is a fun english pub at walking distance - The Tree House, with friendly staff and good food. We really loved Casabarron and will definitelly stay here again if we ever go back to Teneriffe. |
