The Costa Calida region
This part of Spain comes with our own personal recommendation since this area is now our permanent home. Not only does it have the Mediterranean along its coastline, it also benefits from having an “inner” sea, the Mar Menor. There are miles of sandy beaches, dramatic cliffs and coves, offering places to relax or spend your energy. However, the region is not only for beach lovers and water sport enthusiasts, in addition to the city of Murcia, there are many towns in the region worthy of a visit to learn of their history and traditions. Exploring the area will reveal a varied landscape for walking, cycling, canoeing and caving. Altogether too much for a brief summary – come and find out for yourself. We are building up a selection of tourist information to help you.
Los Alcazares is located on the shores of the Mar Menor. The promenade is ideal for a stroll to view the whole of this “inner” sea and 2 of its 5 islands. There are sandy beaches along its full length and plenty of beach bars and cafes, some of which are open all year round. At the southern end of the promenade there is a military base and at its northern end a nature reserve. There are weekly street markets and a variety of shops dotted around the streets of the “old” town. Several times a year you can join the people of the town as they celebrate religious, national and local events. Explore the town for yourself with the help of our tourist information. Walking or cycling is so easy because the area is “on the flat”.

"An excellent apartment with a real home from home feel-highly recommended"
Myself, my husband & 2 teenage children, have just spent 2 weeks at the Albatros complex in Los Alcazares, staying in Alan & Joan's apartment. This was our first time to this part of Spain. We … More

"relaxed location ideal for taking it easy."
Lets start with the arrival at San Javier airport. Being regional airport it is small, which means for people like myself you won't have to hang around. Within 15 minutes of our feet touching Spanish tarmac we were in the back of Alans (proprietor) car and being takenn to the apartment. This is no more than a 5 minute drive. After a quick showing of the the apartments facilties we were wished a pleasent stay and left to get the sun lounges out and get into the pool.
The apartment itself was suitably equiped with a simple kitchen, the bedrooms were comfortable and the bathroom surprisingly spacious.
The town of Los Alcazares is bigger than first appears but the apartment is near enough for a gentle stroll to the main plaza where you will find ample resteraunts to try over a 2 week stay. The beech itself is a little further but you will find it within 5 minute stroll from the plaza. Walking along the paved promanade you will find a wonderful relaxing atmosphere of Spanish familes enjoying late suppers along the beecha. Keep strolling for 10 minutes or so and you will find a few bars that are worth stopping at and enjoy a deserved drink.....
For the people who like to get out and about, then the region of Murcia gives you a few places worth a visit if you have a car. Cartagena for it's harbour and roman ruins. Murcia itself for the cathederal and it's Spanish city feel. Parque Regional de El Valle y Carrascoy for a scenic drive into the mountains.
Overall, the accomodation, the location and the relaxed atmosphere of Los Alcazeres make it a great value for money holiday.

Fantastic apartment, spotlessly clean & well equipped. Just a short walk & you have the plaza where you can find the local supermarket & a selection of bars, restaurants & small shops. This was ideal for my father, who is slightly disabled.
Alan & Joan met us at the airport, as our arrival was on a Sunday they even offered to get the shopping in for when we arrived. It seemed like nothing was too much trouble for them.
I have already recommended the apartment to family & friends.
A big Thank You to Alan & Joan, it was a pleasure to meet such a lovely couple.

From the moment we contacted Alan and Joan, the service was first class, nothing seemed to be a problem to them, even the transfers to and from the airport were free!!
The apartment is beautiful, spotlessly clean, very well equipped and has every comfort you could think of, including fantastic sunbeds for use at the pool. We really appreciated the deatiled information folder with everything from restaurant reviews to bus timetables and instruction manuals for equipment within the apartment
The provisions that were left were very much appreciated and we felt at home as soon as we got unpacked!!
As far as location goes, a short stroll sees you in the Plaza where you will find a fantastic supermarket and a great range of restaurants, with something to suit everyone!!
We hope to visit this apartment again soon and wish to thank Joan and Alan for a fabulous holiday.
