The Murcia region
Los Alcazares pronounced 'los-alcatha-res' is situated in the Murcia region of Spain's Costa Calida. The town sits on the western shore of the Mar Menor, a huge saltwater lagoon separated from the Med by a 22 km strip of land called La Manga.
The area enjoys ave 320 days of sunshine each year to it's blue flag beaches. Bars, cafes & restaurants provide drinks, tapas, meals & entertainment. The warm water of the Mar Menor (ave 1-3 degrees warmer than the Med) helps make the town a paradise for bathers & water sports enthusiasts. The fertile countryside keeps the local markets well stocked bundles of fresh produce so the local restaurants are packed with wonderful fresh food. The area offers boundless opportunities for sports & other activities.
No less than 7 golf courses can be found within a short drive, with 2 new ones under construction within the town itself. Not to mention the world renowned La Manga Club only 15min drive away.
Los Alcazares sits on the Mar Menor, a unique inland sea, separated from the Mediterranean by a narrow, 22 kilometre long strip of land called La Manga. The Mar Menor is only 7 metres deep at it's deepest point, and its average water temperature in the summer is a warm 25'C making it a paradise for bathers and water sports enthusiasts.
The mineral rich water of the Mar Menor is revered for it's health giving properties and the town still has thermal baths which have existed since Roman times. The villa is less than 7 minutes walk from spectacular golden sandy beaches, shallow waters and a pedestrianised tree lined promenade which is very safe for children.
Los Alcazares is less than a five minute drive from Murcia/San Javier International Airport which has frequent flights to and from many European destinations. Alicante airport offers even more flights, and is just 3/4 hour drive away. The historic and beautiful Roman port of Cartagena lies about 15km to the south, and is becoming an increasingly popular port of call for cruise ships.
The beach has many bars and cafes with sun loungers and umbrellas to rent. The sea is very calm with an extremely shallow gradient into the sea making it ideal for children to go swimming.Mar Menor: The gently sloping shallow waters of the Mar Menor mean it is much warmer than the Mediterranean, making it safer for young children as it is very placid & there is very good visibility across the water. You can walk out for many metres with the warm water still only lapping your thighs & no big waves, no tides or strong currents, so you can relax & enjoy your day at the beach. With the many cafes & bars dotted along the beach it's a great way to spend the day & soak up the sun. Every kind of water sport is available!
The mineral-rich water of the Mar Menor is renowned for its health-giving properties & there are nearby thermal baths which have existed since Roman times. The very salty water in the Mar Menor lagoon (San Pedro round to La Manga) is supposed to be very good to bathe in, especially for skin conditions. Many people come to the northern end of the Mar Menor to cover themselves in the black mud from the salinas, which is supposed to be full of all sorts of nutrients.
Shopping/Leisure: Los Alcazares was named after the palaces that stood in medieval times & is still unspoilt, retaining much of its original Spanish charm. Most of the narrow streets lead directly to the 7 km, sandy Blue Flag beach. There are plenty of restaurants & beach bars providing a wide range of cuisine. Los Alcazares offers a non-package-tour environment. With its wonderful all year round climate it has something for all seasons. The town's market days are Tuesday & Saturday when a wide variety of goods are available. There are also many modern high street shops & shopping malls within easy reach.
The historic city of Murcia, is only 30 minutes by car, with its many squares & narrow streets & the city of Cartagena, which is only 15 minutes drive away, are both well worth exploring for their shops, architecture and history. A 40 minute drive will take you to Elche's vast shopping complex, where you can buy locally-made shoes (only available from Bond Street couture houses) at vastly reduced price
Golf: Compared to other villa's for rent on the La Manga complex, this offers very good value for money, saving 40% in some cases. With La manga only a short drive away, and with it's own 3 golf courses, state of the art tennis complex, casino and fine restaurants (all open to non-residents), this is a cost-effective alternative place to stay, with no compromise in the standard of the accommodation. There are no less than seven golf courses (four of international standard) well within 30 minutes drive, & an impressive 23 courses within the Costa Blanca/Costa Calida coastline which cater for all handicap levels. Full details, locations, contact no's, number of holes etc, can be provided on request. This area is a true haven for the golf enthusiast.
Other Activities: Cycles can be hired locally for a small fee (inc childrens & even 3 wheelers!!)

"Brilliant villa, superb location, ideal for a relaxing holiday !"
We have just spent a fantastic week here at the Villa Calle Isla Formentera 12. The villa was spacious, clean and very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. I laughed at the comment about there being a shopping trolley there, however it was our best friend when we walked down to the local Mercando supermarket ( which was only 4 mins walk away) we were able to load it to the top with supplies. The main square, with many, many bars, cafes and restaurants are here too. We were spoilt for choice each night were to eat. We did find a newly opened Hungarian restaurant, the food was brilliant here. Childrens menu available for around 5 euros (inc drink and icecream) At night time the place comes alive, with loads of little stalls selling all sorts. Stroll for another 10mins along this walk way and it leads you straight onto the beach , this has the best beach ever ! More than suitable for families with children, it is really safe, no tide, and the children could walk out in the sea collecting shells for a long way and the water wouldn't go past waist level. I have an 11, 7 and 3 year old. The pool at the villa is fantastic, clean and plenty of floats for the kids ( we left our addition of a frog blow up boat behind for future families!) Air conditioning in the bedrooms was a blessing at night time. The down stairs shower room, toilet was an unexpected bonus as my daughter has limited mobility, so this proved to be very useful. The road is quiet at the villa, no noise at all and it was only a ten minute ride from the airport. 12 euros in a taxi. Along the beach there are a number of little bars and places to rent a sun bed, and get a cold drink and bite to eat. All in all, this was a FANTASTIC Villa find and brilliant location, fingers crossed we will be going back.

"Excellent Villa in a Perfect location"
Just returned from Mark's villa after a two week stay with my wife, children aged 10, 8,18 months and the in laws ! we have stayed in Los Alcazares several times and know the area well and were pleased to find it hasn't changed much and still very much a family friendly resort. Mark's villa is perfectly located for a stroll to the beach, cafe's or restuarants or the old town. The villa is equipped with everything you would need and we enjoyed a couple of great meals on the terrace over looking the pool with a glass of wine, lots of movies for the kids to watch if they need a few hours to 'chill out' and books for the adults, and english TV channels if you want it, also a great selection of music cd's to listen to allthough my father in law would disagree-he still thinks there's a hit parade !! The communication from Mark regarding keys etc was perfect, the only reason I would not recommend anyone staying at this villa is so that it will be available again for me when I want to go next year !! If you book this villa you will not be dissappointed.

"Fab time at the Calle Isla Formentera!"
Myself, my partner, my Mother and my Grandfather have recently stayed at Mark's villa (Calle Isla Formentera) - we had a wonderful stay. The villa is lovely with all the amenities you could need, but the highlight for us was the private pool and veranda where you can sit and have a lovely meal or a glass wine. The street was incredibly peaceful but the villa location is only 10 minutes walk (maximum) to the main street in Los Alcazares, with plenty of shops and restaurants to choose from. Just past the end of the main strip was the beach - so a 15 minute leisurely walk. Beautiful spacious beach with lovely little beach bars/cafes and sunbeds for hire if you want one. Would definitely stay in this villa again!

Although we have stayed in the area a few times before, we have never had a villa with its own pool before and we will certainly be doing it again! The Villa has everything, a real home form home, something that you can't put a price on when traveling with a young family. The children made the very most of the private pool, and the huge range of DVD's and books were much appreciated when they wanted some quiet time. And having the aircon in the bedrooms was also very welcomed on the hot nights. The villa is very close to all amenities, 5 minutes walk to a whole host of restaurants, 3 super markets and the beach only 10 minutes walk away. The beach is fabulous and cleaned daily, sunbeds for hire at only 3 euros a day. The very shallow and warm Mar Menor is perfect for children, ours spent many an hour searching for fish and even found a seahorse!! All in all a lovely relaxing holiday, want to be there now!!

"Great villa perfectly located"
We had a wonderful holiday at Mark's villa. Fully equipped and well thought out (even a shopping trolley!) Pool was brilliant - the kids were in it almost constantly for a fortnight. And although the villa is only minutes away from the bustling town centre of Los Narejos, it was really peaceful. Going back next year - booked already.

"Fantastic villa with everything you need close by...."
Our weeks was booked with excellent communication and advice from Mark. Property is well described, big and airy and very clean. Fantastic for our 5 year old son and 7 year old daughter as well as us grown ups too! The location was fantastic, 5 mins from the local supermarket and 10 mins from the beach with evry kind of restaurant you could think of or want. Very close to the airport and cost approx 12 euros in the local taxi. Would thouroughly recommend this villa to families or couples wanting a hot, quiet getaway. Thankyou very much Mark, we'll be sure to book again.
