The Murcia region
The Mar Menor is a salt-water lagoon of 128km sq with a sea temperature of 5 degrees above the Mediterranean. The area enjoys an average of 320 days sunshine a year. The mineral-rich water of the Mar Menor is revered for its health-giving properties and is listed by the World Health Organisation as one of the healthiest places on earth. The Mar Menor is also considered as one of the best areas for sailing, windsurfing and jet-skiing which can be practised all year round.
The historic Mediterranean port city of Cartagena is 15 miles away. There is much to see and enjoy here with evidence of ancient architecture dating as far back as 227 BC including a Roman amphitheatre dated around 1 BC and the original 13th century cathedral. There's also a Museum of Maritime Archaeology and the city centre offers a fine array of shops interspersed with Roman relics. You can even peer down through a glass pavement and see the ancient cobbled street below.
Music and other festivals are an important feature of Cartagena's culture; in July the city hosts the world music festival 'La Mar de Músicas', while there's the International Jazz Festival in November, and in September the city's colourful history is brought to life in the form of the festival of 'Carthaginians and Romans'.
Los Alcazares boasts 7 kilometres of blue flag beaches ideal for bathing and watersports. The town is bustling in the summer months and is peaceful for most of the rest of the year but there is plenty to see and do all year round with over 300 days of sunshine annually. There are various festivals held in the town each year, the most notable is the Water Festival in October, which the whole town attend, this consists of wind surfing races, barbecues and music of all kinds throughout the day.
Los Alcazares has one of the most beautiful beaches on the Costa Calida. Its palm lined promenade stretches about 4 Km to Los Narejos and is Blue Flag all the way. Los Alcazares promenade is very popular for evening strolls and cycling. The town still has thermal baths, which have existed since Roman times and he bay is famous for visitors with rheumatic, arthritic and skin problems, at one part of the beach there is a natural mud bath which is revered for its therapeutic benefits.
There are many beach bars and playgrounds for young children along the promenade. There is a water centre on the beach which is a haven for water sports such as Jet -Ski's, kite surfing, sailing boats, parasailing, canoeing and fishing.
Bicycles are available to hire locally. For more information see www.los-alcazares.com. The Mar Menor has three excellent golf courses at hand, and also a driving golf range 10 mins drive away. There are three water parks and a zoo a short drive away.
There is a wide choice of bars and excellent restaurants within walking distance, offering authentic Spanish, Italian, English, Chinese, Thai and Indian food at very reasonable prices. There is also a large supermarket within walking distance of the complex and a number of takeaways.

"Brilliant apartment in great location"
This was our first trip to Los Alcazares and we are very glad that we followed the recommendation from friends to visit the Mar Menor.
The booking process with Chris was really easy with very prompt responses to emails with any of our questions about the apartment and the area for that matter!
The apartment itself was very clean and the TV with the british free-view channels was great for our kids when they wanted some time to chill out. The air conditioning is also very handy to ensure that we always returned to a lovely cool apartment after a hot day out. The kitchen has everything you need to be able to cater for yourself if you don't wont to go out to eat.
Definitely the best thing about this apartment is the massive private roof terrace which has beds, tables & chairs and a large cover which allows you to sit out of the sun if required. Our oldest daughter would have loved wi-fi in the apartment so she could keep in touch with friends but all the restaurants and pubs in the nearby Plaza had free wi-fi which she could use.
The key-holder (Ange) was also a big help from our return trip to and from the airport and the translations she assisted us with when our youngest daughter needed to visit the medical centre. It really did feel like having a personal rep from a package holiday on hand at all times. We did have some problems with the TV reception and Ange did try her best to get the company to come and sort it urgently but i guess some things just move a bit slower in Spain!
Very fortunately for us El Divino was located in a fantastic position just a 5 minute stroll from the Mercadona supermarket which was very cheap and located at the top of the Plaza where all the restaurants and pubs are located too. The beach is only about a 15 minute walk through the plaza and the beach is beautiful with lovely sand and very shallow warm water.
We had a really great holiday and Los Alcazares and this apartment cant be faulted if you are looking for a chilled out relaxing holiday, we will definitely return soon and hopefully the apartment will be available when we do.
You don't really need a car but if you are going for more than 1 week with kids we would recommend renting a car for a few days to get out and about as Los Alcazares doesn't have a huge amount of stuff for kids to do beyond the pool and the beach, maybe that should be enough!!

"Will return for the 5th time"
Having just spent two weeks at this El Divino Pentouse apartment we will definitely be returning as soon as possible (if we can find a free booking slot!)
Despite one or two days of Spanish rain, the accommodation and Los Alcazares area with it's easy access to fine dining, shopping, beautiful sea front and sea views over the Mar Menor (ideal for just strolling about) ensured we experienced (once again) an enjoyable and relaxing stay.
The apartment provided us with all the amenities we could wish for including a number of items which seem new from our last visit, such as a new cooker, hob and new sunbed covers.
The sun terrace which covers the whole of the apartment area is the final jewel in the crown allowing for total relaxation and dining if required whilst making the most of the Murcia sun, it is also totally secure (gated) making it ideal for families with children as well as couples.
Looking forward to more happy holidays spent here.

"Fantastic holiday, want to move there!"
We have recently returned from our first, but definitely not our last, visit to Los Alcazares. We were looking for a bit of sunshine in a quiet, but not isolated place and we found just what we needed. Superbly sunny weather, ideal for exploring the surrounding area or just walking along the promenade to enjoy the fantastic outlook onto the Mar Menor – a truly awe-inspiring vista. The feel of the old town and seafront is so relaxing, friendly and full of locals watching the world go by. There are plenty of really good supermarkets near to the apartment but also some lovely restaurants and bars in the old town and also in the pedestrianized street. We visited Cartagena during our stay; beautiful old town with great shops.
The apartment is excellently located near to shops, bars, restaurants and supermarkets, but in a quiet location in a gated community with a beautiful pool. The apartment has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a good-sized kitchen. There were plenty of spare sheets and towels and a washing machine should you need it. The ultimate draw is, however, the fabulous roof terrace where you can relax without being disturbed by any other guests; brilliant for relaxing at the end of the day with your favourite tipple.
The whole process from start to finish was so easy; prompt replies to emails, excellent organisation and communication and helpful service once we arrived at the apartment.
All in all, we had a fantastic holiday in a wonderful place; small, friendly, sunny, relaxed and really good value for money. What more could you ask for?

"Well positioned but needing investment"
A spacious apartment, well situated for the amenities, but desperately in need of some capital investment. Needs painting throughout. All bedding very tired( we went to Ikea and bought our own plus mattress protector!) Sun bed/chair cushions faded and mouldy.Lacking basics such as loo brushes, toilet roll holders and towel rails. New hob and oven provided after a month, beore that we had a dangerous hob and and oven that didn't close. Extractor fan doesn't work. We had to have iron and ironing board cover replaced. Kettle needs replacing; existing kitchen utensils etc OK but additions such as glass bowls for microwave and wooden spoon would be useful.
We bought what we felt we needed to enjoy the holiday and ,happily, the weather was great!
I was very suprised by the feedback here, all previous reviews have been very good, I kept in contact with the guests throughout their stay and when they informed us of their concerns we asked our keyholder to replace some of the items. We also purchased a new oven and hob after the issues that were reported. Since they have left we have had further guests who really enjoyed there stay. We have also replaced some of the items they have mentioned here.
All feedback is always welcomed and we have addressed the issues raised. We offer our apartment at very competitive rates and we are not there all year round so some things do occassionally need replacing, which when we receive feedback we will always address these.
If anybody has any concerns please feel free to raise them with us, we will be pleased to respond.

"Relaxing Break In The sun"
My wife and I stayed in this penthouse apartment for nine nights in October. This was our first visit to Los Alcazares but we are already planning to return. On the El Divino complex, this accommodation is modern, comfortable, secure, and convenient. The owners have obviously put a lot of thought into ensuring that their guests have an enjoyable holiday. The layout is both practical and flexible. Facilities in the living area, bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen are all of a high standard but for me the bonus was the large and private rooftop solarium with loungers and furniture. Los Alcazares appears to have no hills at all and the apartment is in an ideal location to easily access shops, restaurants and the amazing local beaches. It is a two minute walk to the town square and the Mercadona supermarket which provides good quality food and drinks for those who prefer to self cater. At the same time no-one need miss out on their favourite English fare. Beyond the square and on the plaza (towards the bottom and on the right hand side) is Arkwrights. This is a store run by Ian and Sue, a friendly couple from Derbyshire. They stock a good selection of English brands at very reasonable prices. Also, unlike the supermarkets, but in keeping with their tv namesake, they are indeed "Open All Hours". For those who don't want to cook the plaza offers everything from snacks to a la carte and a variety of cuisines. Away from the plaza but still only a five minute walk from the apartment is the Chang Jiang Chinese retaurant on Avenue de la Libertad. This does delicious food at unbelievable prices. A typical menu of the day is starter, main course, + tea, coffee, or ice cream for 6 euros! The apartment is a few minutes away from the beach which runs for miles in either direction. The promenade is dotted with beach bars and restaurants. The sands are clean and the water warm and shallow. I would not hesitate to recommend both the apartment and the resort.
