Further details indoors:
We bought Diciotto from a local family in 2004 and since that time we have renovated and updated the house doing much of the work ourselves, trying to be faithful to it's character but adapt it for modern living. This truly is a house for all seasons, from being a mediterranean sun trap, watching as the olives and grapes mature, to a cosy continental winter retreat enjoying the snow on the mountains and bright blue days. It is a simple, comfortable, very Italian home which people fall in love with.
Further details outdoors:
On the terrace there is a circular dining table and chairs for complete al fresco living.

The Marche / Abruzzo / Abruzzo region

Abruzzo has everything - A wild rugged, romantic part of Italy, with 3 mountainous National Parks of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This area is known as the 'Green Heart of Europe' with its largest area of National park and home to the Appenine's highest peak (Corno Grande 2912 metres)
The Adriatic Abruzzese coastline is a gorgeous mix of rocky coves and cliffs and miles of blissful sandy accessible beaches, with many awarded the european clean water Blue Flag. The region is a rich cultural mix of sophisticated cities offering the full compliment of Italian designer shopping and charming traditional towns and villages. There is a wealth of ancient architectural gems and quirky follies and wild life that really is 'wild', with Marsican bears and Abruzzese wolves.
This is a perfect area for cycling, walking and seeing as much of the breathtaking countryside at close quarters as possible. In the winter Abruzzo has ski slopes for all abilities over a prolonged season.
This area is littered with places of historic interest, some of them are in the most spectacular and dramatic locations. Here are a few of them, but there are masses more.
Alba Fucens - is the Abruzzo Colosseum, a Roman Amphitheatre near the hill top town of Albe.
Rocca Calascio - The remains of the highest mountaintop fort in Italy (1460 metres above sea level).
Santo Stefano di Sessanio - A living restored C16 hill village with a "chess piece"watchtower.
And all this is within easy driving distance of Diciotto - makes you think doesn't it?

The Loreto Aprutino area
Loreto Aprutino is a self-contained, thriving ancient town with it's own identity and considerable charm. It has all the amenities necessary including shops, banks, bars and restaurants around the main piazza. Up in the Centro Storico area there are artisan workshops, museums, a regional theatre and for those who want more informal entertainment a makeshift 'outdoor film show,' showing a random film of the day in a small open field - in Italian of course!
This is a small community with the local economy based on wine (Montepulciano d'Abruzzo) and olives, and there is evidence of this everywhere, with a great deal of local pride in th exquisite olive oil.
If you are making your own 'Grand Tour' of Italy there are excellent road and rail links into Abruzzo. Loreto Aprutino and Diciotto can be a pivotal starting or finishing point, allowing you to relax and recharge batteries while enjoying the very best of Italy .

Flights -
There are 4 main airports to the central part of Italy.
The most straightforward method is to fly directly into Abruzzo (Pescara). The low-fare airline Ryanair flies from London Stansted to Pescara. The main car hire companies Hertz, Avis, Autoeurope and Eurocar operate from Pescara Airport and from here it's about a 25 minute drive to Diciotto. There is a local bus service from the airport to Pescara bus station, and from there a connection to Loreto Aprutino.
Ryanair also fly into Le Marche airport, Ancona which is (110 miles from Diciotto). This is a drive following the coast for most of the journey.
Most of the major airlines fly to Rome, including some of the low-fare operators. There are flights to Rome from Belfast, Bristol, Cork, Dublin, East Midland, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, London Gatwick, London Heathrow, London Stansted, Manchester and Newcastle. On arrival at Rome airport it's a gorgeous drive of 140 miles on the emptiest autorstrada in Italy that cuts through the Appenine mountain range. (Probably the best drive from an airport you will ever do!)
Most of the airlines have arrangements with the car hire companies for additional discount (but it is still not necessarily the cheapest, it's worth shopping on line separately).
Rail -
Train travel in Italy is very economical, but it is advisable to book tickets in advance. It takes about 4 hours meandering from Rome to Pescara on the train with some of the most spectacular scenery in Italy passing by the window.
Road - The road system into Abruzzo is good from all directions.
We will provide you with minutae-detailed directions from Pescara Airport to Diciotto.
