The West Country / Cornwall region
Downderry is a beautiful, popular Cornish seaside village which enjoys breathtaking unspoilt coastline & countryside. It also has good local day-to-day facilities with a general store, Post Office, traditional inn with lovely sea views, The Inn on the Shore and recently opened Blueplate restaurant by local celebrity chef Nick Barclay.
If you enjoy walking, the coastal paths provide many opportunities with nearby Seaton, Looe, Talland Bay & onto the 13th Century fishing village of Polperro.
The Looe / Downderry area
Good leisure sporting facilities are within easy reach including the 18 hole coastal golf courses of Whitsand Bay, Looe and the Nicklaus designed St Mellion. There are many beaches around, Downderry being mainly shingle and Whitsand Bay which is a vast sandy beach.
The ancient ports of Looe & Polperro are reachable in fifteen and twenty minutes respectively and the city of Plymouth is an half hour distant.
Wonderful National Trust houses and gardens are abundant around. This is a fine house for a family, coastal holiday in a most beautiful part of Cornwall.

We stayed at Looe Island View with 2 young boys, and had both sets of Grandparents to stay over the course of the week. Location is excellent for exploring the treats of the South Cornwall Coast as well as the likes of Eden, Heligan and the moors. Situated in a great village, just a couple of minutes drive from the beach ( walkable) where the boys played for hours. Within the village a couple of good value pubs/restaurants made for an even more enjoyable stay ! Beer lovers will enjoy the Doom Bar (Sharps ale). Looe Island View is a modern house, well equipped and family friendly. Great views across the coast and Looe Bay resulted in some stunning photos to bring home for memories. All local attractions were within a 45-60 minute drive with plenty of stop off points along the way. Enjoyed by kids and gradparents alike - we will not hesitate to go backl |
