The West Country region
Cornwall is the most South Western part of the UK, benefitting from some of Britain's mildest climates, with the warming effects of the Gulf Stream, early springs and long lingering summers.
This unspoilt County enjoys a dramatic landscape from rugged moorland to stunning beautiful golden beaches.
Cornwall has historically been intrinsically linked with outdoor activities.
With some of the cleanest seas in Europe surrounding the County, it has always been popular for water-based activities especially surfing. North Cornwall, predominantly in and around Newquay has historically been home to many UK Surfing Championships.
Walkers are able to find extensive countryside to discover and can delight in the longest stretch of continuous coastline in Britain on the South West Coast Path.
This ancient and mystic Celtic County has a feeling of being a land of legend and romance. Hence artists come to Cornwall for inspiration drawn by its rugged beauty and the quality of light.
A 30 minute walk from Kilminorth are the busy twin towns of East and West Looe lie either side of the harbour and are joined by the famous arched bridge. Looe offers quaint old buildings, twisting streets, smugglers taverns and some of Cornwall's finest restaurants.
The activities of the fishing fleet are a constant fascination, to visitors and locals alike, who can enjoy watching the latest catch being landed at the Fish Quay. The Quay also provides a base for the many boatmen offering everything from short sea trips to longer fishing trips to catch mackerel, conger and shark.
Looe also has its own railway, the Looe Valley Line, a single track branch line running alongside the estuary and river through the rolling countryside between Looe and Liskeard. Safe bathing from Looe's two beaches and the many leisure activities; tennis, riding, bowls, putting, water sports, golf, fishing, scenic walks, National Trust properties, will help make your visit as varied, interesting, active or relaxing as you want!
There are many excellent beaches close by including Talland, Looe and Seaton. Fowey, the ancient seafaring town once home to Daphne du Maurier, is just a short drive and ferry crossing. Stroll around the quaint lanes and browse the many shops, pubs, cafes and delis. The South West Coastal Path is easily accessed and a walk along it shows the dramatic effect the sea has on this peninsula. Horse riding, surfing, sailing and fishing trips are all available at nearby coastal resorts. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurants 2 miles.
Perfectly situated to discover the delights of the 13th Century fishing village of Polperro which is famous for smugglers' coves, shark fishing and the little villages also offer an array of shops. Both Looe and Polperro have many excellent restaurants and cosy pubs with locally caught seafood a speciality.
A short drive to Fowey with its picturesque harbour and sailing centre. Further inland is the Eden Project, whose futuristic “biomes” contain plants from around the worldFor those in search of a faster pace, a visit to Adrenalin Quarry, home of the longest zip wire in the UK, is a must, and nearby Kartworld caters to budding racing drivers of all ages.
Visit many of the stunning golf courses including Looe, Lostwithiel, St. Mellion and the dramatic cliff-top courses of Carlyon Bay and Whitsand Bay.
Further afield, you can sample the delights of Rick Stein's Padstow or Jamie Oliver's Fifteen Restaurant and the Extreme surf academy at Watergate Bay. Newquay is home to the Blue Reef Aquarium, Newquay Zoo and the vibrant surf scene at Fistral Beach.
