Sea view - Hillside Villa
About the home
Newly refurbished Mediterranean style villa set into the wooded slopes of Millendreath, a picturesque Cornish Valley. Overlooks the sea and opposite hillside. The brick built villa which has been cedar clad, is located approx 150 metres from a sandy beach, in a sheltered south facing suntrap valley. A very mild climate through to winter, offering 3 night breaks out of summer season.
Comfortable modern living. 2 compact double bedrooms, both with double beds. A new light oak kitchen. Lounge with sea and country views. Under floor heating for cooler weather and an air exchange unit providing constant clean air into the property, (Ideal for asthma and hay fever sufferers). Fully double glazed. Parking is in the private car park in the valley approx 100 metres away after unloading at foot of villa steps. It is gated with pass code on entry.
There are 63 steps up to the villa and once at the top the steps the view is well worth the climb, but for this reason may be unsuitable for the elderly, people with mobility difficulties or young children. New for this summer, hopefully; a beach-side cafe, along with toilet facilities, beach shower and a water sports company offering tuition, kayak, body board and surf hire. There are no amusement arcades, restaurants or shops in the valley, but pretty Looe is 1 mile away and has them all, including a small night club!
Although 2 bed roomed, ideally the Villa is best suited to couples wishing for a 'get away from it all' break.
There are coastal paths, countryside and woodland walks from the valley, ideal for dog walkers and ramblers. Millendreath also has a jetty from which to fish or enclosed bathing at high tide.
Millendreath has its own private beach, a planned water sports company for body boarding, kayaking and paddle boarding hire. At high tide Millendreath beach is small, but at low tide quite big and there is access to a huge beach to the east which can only be reached from Millendreath or Seaton making it very quiet. (Don't forget to get back before the tide comes back in or alternatively return by coast path!)

Sea, hillside and valley views to the front and steep woodland to the rear of the property. New for 2013 are: Large double glazed windows and patio doors to front taking full advantage of the view. The resurfaced, large terrace to the front, has a table and chairs for four people and outside light. New stainless steel 'ships' type balustrading with a gate for complete enclosure.
A great fish and chip shop is at the top of the lane and Londis and Spar shops are 15 minutes walk away in the Barbican. There you have cash machines, off licence, DVD rental, a pub, chippy and Chinese take away.
A 20 minute walk along the coast path or road takes you to the busy fishing port of Looe, with its harbour, restaurants, cafes and shops dotted around its narrow and quaint streets. Once the tide is out you can walk to Looe or Seaton/Downdery in the opposite direction. If driving to Looe, the journey is 5 minutes and has ample parking.
The Villa is about 150 meters from the beach front. Mobile signal temperamental but phone box in valley. BT phon or openzone wi fi signal...others more temperamental.
Recent improvements have begun in this forgotten valley, with a 50 million refurbishment project planned over 5 years. Villa refurbishment below us is nearing completion and plans have been submitted for 14 sea front (Hillside) properties. The developer has stated that much of the work will be out of season and building will commence in September 2013; 150 meters away. They will have little affect on the view, but the building work may put off some. Sorry, but is beyond my control. Much improvement work has already taken place. Once the front is done work will be further up the valley and more out of the way.
Discount is given to those who return after a stay during the refurbishment of the valley. As yet, I have had NO complaints at all about the building work, which the worst of, was during the 2012 season, people saying they have not been affected and we had almost capacity booking for the whole of summer 2012 and 2013.
The pricing for Sea View reflects this, as I believe people should be informed and once the valley is complete, this will become a very upmarket resort.
Further details
Karen and Steve welcome you to our villa. We fell in love with the area when we stayed nearby on holiday last year. We have totally refurbished the inside of our property for 2012 with exterior works completed in May 2013.
The first £15 of electricity is included in the price for a full week and electric cards are available from £5, seven days a week on site. £15 is usually sufficient for 1 weeks stay without underfloor heating. Savings can be made by only using the heating when needed.
UPDATE: Meter has been changed to a lower tarrif in 2013 by our landlord/developer so this will make a difference to running costs with heating on. As a guide; £30 worth was used in a cold autumn week, heating on and dishwasher/washer/dryer/dishwasher/oven in full normal use so a top up of £15 was required.
You are reminded that there are 63 steps up to the property with a hand rail.
2 King sized duvets, and 4 pillows per double bed are provided but linen and towels are not.
BT Wi fi available inside villa but mobile signal often poor.
Phone box in valley.
DOGS:
* There is a restriction for dogs on the private beach. No dogs allowed between 10am - 6pm March - September. Please use dogs bins provided or the ban may become complete *
There is a dog friendly beach 5 minutes walk away in the next bay (Plaidy) and Seaton beach 5 miles away (by car) or a 45 minute walk along the beach at low tide and is also dog friendly . The coastal, woodland and Moor walks near by are fabulous for those with or without dogs and many places in Cornwall are dog friendly.
There are laminate floors throughout, except carpeted bedrooms which we ask you keep dogs out of, Thank you.
1 medium sized dog cage is available if required, but no bedding or bowls. (Dogs should not be left alone in the property)
A charge of £20 per full week is payable per dog.

A £50 minimum initial deposit or 20% of holiday cost per week secures the booking . Remaining balance in full due 8 weeks prior to the holiday. There is a £50 damage/security deposit also payable, which is refunded after inspection of the property and return of the keys.

The West Country / Cornwall region
Warmed by the Gulf Stream, Cornwall lies on the western tip of England, with Celtic roots and mild climate, it has been a great favourite for holiday makers, with a stunning landscape, wooded valleys to jagged cliffs, and a dramatic coast line with clean beaches provide the perfect holiday destination for all ages. It is the perfect retreat at any time of year.
The Looe / Millendreath area
MILLENDREATH is a small inlet with its own sandy, private beach, 1 mile from the main town of Looe to the West. There is a tranquil air to the place as there is no through traffic. The valley was purchased by Espalier developments with a plan to regenerate the valley with eco build holiday homes, swimming pool and spa.
A small water sports tuition and hire business, cafe, toilets and beach showers arrive this summer.
There are coastal walks with breathtaking views in every direction; woodland walks starting from your door and picnic areas in scenic locations.
Millendreath is so secluded you may have difficulty finding it on a map, yet it is so close to some of the best known attractions in the West Country. Small boats can be launched from here and there is a jetty which provides an enclosed bathing area or fishing platform when the tide is in. There are numerous rock pools and crevices. When the tide is out you can walk along the beach-front, or take a 20 minute coastal path walk or 5 minute drive to Looe where there is ample parking. Being close to the A38 there is always somewhere to explore.
LOOE
The picturesque fishing town of Looe is situated on the spectacular South Cornwall Coast in a largely unspoilt area of the South West. It has an unpretentious charm and an excellent range of facilities with traditional Inns and cosy pubs tucked away in the pretty narrow streets. Restaurants, galleries, cafes, shops and convenience stores are found in this quaint fishing village. There is ample parking in Looe.
Families love to fish for crabs from the quayside.
A variety of boats can be hired including a ferry or glass bottomed boat which will also take you around Looe Rock (St Georges island) Try a spot of fishing for yourself, deep sea shark, conger or mackerel are are in the area. Dolphins and seals are also often seen.
The coastline in this region is stunning and is accessible by the scenic Cornwall South Coast Path. You can walk to the neighbouring fishing village Polperro,(5 miles) where you will find a smaller version of Looe with its quaint working harbour, pedestrianized streets and fabulous gift shops, galleries, good selection of pubs and restaurants.
Looe hosts a range of events including sailing regattas, a music festival, carnival week and even a duck race! New Year at Looe is made really special with the whole town celebrating in fancy dress and fireworks at midnight off the beach. It is among the top 10 English destinations to be at New year!
You may wish to explore the Eden project, 25 miles from Millendreath, combined with the Lost gardens of Heligan (approx same distance) or The beautiful old fishing port of Mevagissey is 27 miles away and even the North coast towns of Newquay and Padstow are within one hours driving time at 37 miles from your villa.
Other amenities close by include horse riding, Shire horse centre, rock climbing, kayaking, snorkelling, scuba diving, sea and course fishing and the Monkey sanctuary. The Lux Park Leisure Centre indoor pool in Liskeard (15 mins) has water flumes – a popular outing for families.

This chalet has been refurbished to a very high standard. It was exceptionally clean, modern bright and airy. It had everything you need for a comfortable stay, we had some rain but we were very happy to stay in and relax on the comfy sofas. It was a home from home. The views are lovely, we had a cuppa in bed every morning just to sit and relax whilst watching the ocean. We had our 2 beagles with us and there are plenty of good walks. Looe, Seaton, Downderry, and the Estuary and Forest walk in Looe is lovely. The booking system is easy, Karen is very friendly and helpful. We will definitely go again and I would recommend it to anyone. Response: Thank you very much for your lovely review. We are pleased everything was OK, particularly as there is still refurbishment, by the developer's, occurring in the villas below ours. (To be completed by June 2013) Hopefully, if you do decide to revisit, there will be a cafe and water sports facility on the beach front. |

Stayed for 4 nights in Steve and Karens villa and absolutely loved it! It was exactly as described and was extremely comfortable, felt like a real home from home with everything we needed: fully equipped kitchen (for the once I cooked!) very cosy beds (with electric blanket) and a lovely view of the sea. The location was just right for visiting the wonderful Cornish towns and villages and the steps up to the property just helped us burn off the over indulgence of Cornish food and drink! Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would love to return when the weather warms up. Sharon & Chris Response: Thank you both for such a complimentary review for a particularly cold spell in February. Happily, It appears the renovations which occurred below, did not affect your stay. We would love to welcome you back anytime. |

Only had time for a weekend break but will certainly return soon. The villa setting is marvelous with amazing views whatever the weather - we were lucky! Amazingly quiet and peaceful, the valley has improved massively since my last visit - looking forward to seeing the next phase of renovations! The villa has everything you need, is comfortable and well equiped. There are no facilities/amenities at present in the valley - hence the peace and tranquility, it is an easy walk to Looe and Seaton, a good base to explore and not far to Plymouth. Pack carefully to reduce the number of trips up the steps with luggage and once up there ....enjoy!! Response: Thank you for taking the time to review your 2nd visit with us. Your comment about the packing made me laugh, but so true. (You obviously learned from last time, and is a helpful comment for others.)The view certainly does make it worth while and as you say, it is a very tranquil valley. We would love to welcome you back again. All the best. Karen. |
