The West Country region

The Westcountry is one of the most beautful parts of England, and Cornwall could be said to be its crown jewel...one of the most stunning places you will find anywhere...

With an abundance of gorgeous coastal towns and villages, spectacular scenery, fabulous beaches and wooded estauries it offers something for everyone. Traditional English pubs rich wih tales of old smugglers, and moody moorland and misty cliffs bringing legends and mysteries to life.

Famed by many from the literary world authors and poets alike... from Rosamunde Plicher to Daphne DuMaurier, E.V.Thomson to J.S. Betjeman...and an ever growing band of new arrivals

Providing the scenery for many great Movies, from Ladies in Lavender to Die Another Day, Saving Grace to The Shell Seekers...and the backdrop for highly successful TV shows such as the delightful comic drama Doc Martin in the UK, to the highly popluar long running Rosamunder Pilcher Sunday night institution in Germany ( 'The Day of the Storm' Stürmische Begegnung to 'Cliffs of Love' Klippen der Liebe .. to name just a couple of the 89 episodes)

Food & Drink... The reputation of the Westcountry for great food seems to be growing unendingly, with Cornwall leading the way... variously described as "Britain's new foodie capital" (Guardian), "..one of the best reputations for cuisine in the UK" (Delicious), "...one of the best foodie havens in the country" (Daily Mail)... it is hard to go wrong. From traditional favourites such as ice creams, pasties, fish & chips, and luscious cream teas (which you will be able to taste upon your arrival at No. 1 Ingledene), to the great locally sourced meat and fish and fine dining with a host of celebrity chefs (Rick Stein, Jamie Oilver, Nathan Outlaw etc..).. the options are limitless. And when it comes to pubs you are spoilt for choice with history and character in abundance.

The House - Some Reviews from 2013

"… A beautiful place. I was in awe without even opening the great red door! The sound systems are amazing, a perfect way to start the day." - The Sandrines – October 2013"Lovely Comfortable House" - The Mctomneys - Leigh-on-Sea June 2013

"Comfy House – Would come again" - The Allsops – Northampton June 2013

"Great lovely comfortable house with English charm!" - The Kuhn Family – Switzerland July 2013

"Lovely spacious house in a great location – had a great week in a lovely home" - The Heaton Family – August 2013

Picture-postcard holidays… Looe is special … an ancient coastal smuggling town, with a gorgeous family beach, quaint streets and a working fish market. Recently awarded Silver in the Best UK Coastal Resort Category in the British Travel Awards!!

Beach – Sandy, south-facing, with shallow waters that offer excellent safe swimming, great facilities close at hand, and nestling beneath the iconic Banjo Pier, East Looe Beach is the perfect family beach.

Walking – Looe sits on the South West Coast Path giving easy access to some of the prettiest coastal walking anywhere. The South West Coast Path Guide describes the walk from Looe to the ancient smuggling village of Polperro thus… “A coastal walk taking in a holy legend and a sixth century monastery, as well as an eighteenth century eccentric and a nineteenth century engineer. There are rockpools on the beaches, with remnants of shipwrecks and tales of smugglers, and the walk ends with a stroll up through the picturesque fishing village of Polperro to Crumplehorn, where you can catch a bus back to Looe.” http://www.southwestcoastpath.com/walksdb/15/

For our most welcome German visitors, (amongst others) Rosamunde Pilcher's - Karussell des Lebens - the 3rd ever episdoe of the long running series was filmed in and around Looe & Polperro.

Close to someof the finest National Trust Properties around, including Lanhydrock and Cotehele

Food & Drink ... for many years a place renowned for all the best a traditional seaside town could offer, ice creams, pasty shops and great fish and chips, has now added a growing reputation of Looe for its range of restaurants, to suit all levels... Home to the South East Cornwall Food Festival (with demonstrations by the Tanner Brothers and James Strawbridge of 'Hungry Sailors' fame) there is a growing number a wonderful places to eat.... and when it comes to fish , this is the place to be... described in his Food Heroes as 'my favourite fish market".. Rick says "It's the best fish in the world... Where better to experience superlative quality fish than Looe."

And for the Kids - Beyond the beach, the rockpools and crabbing there is just so much more to keep them entertained at any time of year...Here are just a few ideas for great days out with the children and all within an easy distance.

Wild Futures Monkey Sanctuary – No Man's Land Looe (follow the signs) Caring for a range of different species of Monkeys, wildlife gardens, activity rooms and workshops… and only 5 mins away!

Siblyback lake – for the gentle day there are two play parks, lovely walk/bike ride around the lake and the ducks to feed. It is also a popular spot for fishing.

For those looking for a bit more adventure there is cable wakeboarding, windsurfing, sailing, kayaking and high ropes.

Common Moor, Liskeard, PL14 6ER. 01579 346522

Kidz world – large indoor play area with everything from soft play to drop slides. Outdoor play area, bumper cars, crazy golf and high ropes course.

Stadium Retail Park, Par Moor Road, Saint Austell, St Austell, Cornwall, PL25 3RP. 01726 815553

Seaton valley – just a few minutes drive from Looe you have everything you need for a great day out with the children. Walk or bike up through the valley, feed the ducks, play in the park, chill out on the beach or treat yourself at the Seaton Beach café.
